ITV plans a multimedia blitz around the Jane Austen Season

Filed under: Mansfield Park 2007, Northanger Abbey 2007, Persuasion 2007 — Mags @ 9:29 pm

Rupert Penry-Jones as Captain Wentworth (Thanks to Alert Janeite Sylvia M. for sending us the lovely illustration for our post! (Click to see the full-size version)

More about “Flirtmail” from a business news site in the UK:

Iris has developed an interactive game dubbed ‘Flirtmail’ that allows females to score their personality traits and discover the male Austen protagonist they are most suited to. Adverts will be placed on a number of female-targeted websites including Handbag.com and the Hello magazine site.

Sounds like fun. The ITV microsite also will include trailers, behind-the-scenes footage, and a contest to win a weekend in Bath.

The article also mentions podcasts and audiobooks on ClassicFM, and Alert Janeite Marian found the link. You can subscribe to the podcast (which is the audiobooks) and enjoy the other microsite offerings after March 12.

I am a little afraid to take the personality test and see who I am “most suited to”. What if it is Mr. Collins???

Ooh, the air dates are finally available somewhere, it seems. That Classic FM link had the dates:

    Mansfield Park 18 March
    Northanger Abbey - 25th March
    Persuasion - 1st April

I don’t know if I’m reading too much into this, but the order of the three movies airing is interesting… Persuasion seems to be getting the most press and attention, and it seems like ITV wants to end their “Jane Austen Season” with a bang.

I was wondering about the JA season airdates too- saving the best till last and putting the weakest aadpatation in the middle ? Okay, a very sujective comment and hope I’m wrong !

  5. Catherine Says:

Perhaps it’s more that Billie Piper is a big name and can pull in the viewers for the first adaptation - and then they go out on a bang with Persuasion. Although, Emma (97) is actually coming last … go figure.
