BECOMING JANE segment on BBC’s Film 2006

Filed under: Becoming Jane — Mags @ 12:50 am

Paul from KeiraWeb was kind enough to record the behind the scenes segment about BECOMING JANE on the BBC’s Film 2006 and has set up the file for download.

Take our word for it: shouting at your computer doesn’t make the Made Up Story go away. :-D We did, however, get a giggle over the presenter’s pun on Persuasion. Well played, sir!

  1. Teresa Says:

I just think Jane appears a little too well turned out for her situation in life. Her gown for the ball seemed a tad too expensive looking for a clergyman’s daughter (as well as appearing nearly twenty years too soon). I am trying very hard to keep an open mind, even though I know the completed film is going to irk me into apoplexy. James/Tom does look very good, though, even though I always pictured Tom a bit blonder.

  2. Marybeth Says:

There are many things I could say about this clip - many, many things - but I will hold my tounge so as not to appear like the dried up old spinster I surely am.

All I will say is I agree with Teresa’s opinion about Jane’s dress, James McAvoy looks yummy, and ohmigod, It’s Not True!

  3. Kathleen Says:

Completely also agree with Teresa and Marybeth on Jane’s dress (does she have time machine so that she’s the only one wearing a dress from 1815 while everyone had dresses from the mid-1790s or earlier). And MUST STOP snarking. James McAvoy looks tremendously gushable so viewing him will probably be the the only thing to stop me yelling at the screen. And at least he kept saying ‘might’ which was a sight better than Julie Walters, who I wish would have hushed up since she was spouting such drivel.

Guys. Sice I just became a member on IMDB Pro. I was on Becoming Janes’s page and there were a list of the comoanies and distributors of the movie. and this is the english distibutor’s page: http://www.scionfilms.com/content_page.asp?id=134 It has a picture of the movie and the story in a different way. Check it out!!

  5. Tony A Says:

Synopsis from Scion: When 20 year old Jane Austen falls in love with a penniless Irish boxer, he inspires her to put pen to paper for the first time.

A penniless Irish boxer? Times have not changed, I suppose. As it is now, you have to be a pugilist in some form to be in politics.

Jane puts pen to paper for the first time at age 20. Oh, that’s right, I forgot. She dictated the Juvenilia to her personal secretary.

This movie is fast becoming, as Oprah would put it, hideouser and hideouser.

  6. Franka Says:

This hardly seems to be an ‘real’ movie company. They spelled James McAvoy wrongly! (”McEvoy”) And that’s not even the worst thing. 20 year old Jane Austen?! Putting her pen to paper for the first time?! A boxer?! His lack of money?! His social status being frowned upon?!
What ARE they talking about? This is almost worse than the storyline we’ve read on another movie-company page… :-(

  7. Helen A Says:

Indeed, who or what are these people talking about?!

Perhaps the penniless Irish boxer gives Jane her first pen, thus allowing her to throw her quills away?? But Tony is probably correct, JA had a personal secretary early on and when she is tragically separated from her Irish boxer, she dumps the secretary too…
