Pride and Prejudice Musical in Utah
A new musical adaptation of Pride and Prejudice (the fourth fairly recent one by our count) will debut this Friday, August 1, and run through August 16, 2008, at the SCERA Center in Orem, Utah. Tickets are $8-14 and are available online. As always, we would love a report from any AustenBlog reader who attends!

I am a cast member, Mr. Collins.
Other than my own casting, I believe this to be a most excellent production of P&P. The music has full orchestration, unlike some other musical versions that float about the Internet, and the writing does an excellent job of capturing many of the most beloved lines of dialog.
As a P&P fan myself, I feel the screenplay and music do an excellent job of portraying and retelling the story we all love, especially considering the time constraints of a stage production. Though every favorite line cannot fit within those confines, the best of the best remain intact. I wish we could do a six hour A&E version for the die hards, however, I feel this version will please most fans and serve as a great introduction of the story to a P&P newbies.
I have to admit, I’m a more rotund Mr. Collins than either A&E or the recent Hollywood version present. However, I hope my characterization of Collins will be satisfactory. In fact, my largess should make me even more repelling, as a suitor. Though I have no hope of satisfying every fan, I am excited and honored to be a part of a truly wonderful production.
Just imagine it, for the next month, I get to live in a P&P world!!!
P.S. - They are producing a cast recording CD of the show; it will be sold at the show.

And if one lives much too far from Utah to convince one’s overly indulgent spouse that another trip to the theater would be a fun way to spend the weekend, is it possible to acquire a copy of the recording by another means?

I’m not sure, but I certainly hope they make it available online. I will post an answer to this question, as soon as I have an answer. If they don’t plan on selling it online, I’ll see what I can do to help you purchase a copy… Stay tuned.

In addition to the run at the Scera Outdoor Theatre, the show will pick-up and move indoors to Brigham Young University’s 1451 capacity De Jong Concert Hall, which interestingly enough, was design by renowned acoustics pioneer Harvy Fletcher, the inventor of the audiometer and hearing aid, among other things.
The show will run for one week at BYU, during their annual Campus Education Week that draws in visitors from around the world. Info and online ticketing can be found here: http://www.byuarts.com/

Thanks - I did notice that the theater website had a store, but when I clicked there, its said it was coming soon, or something like that.

Dang! I’m in Hurricane. If I had known sooner I could have asked for work off. Now I am very sad. I want to go to the theater! Hope it’s going well.

Matt — thanks for the update about the additional run at BYU. That happens to be the week I’ll be on vacation in Utah, so I bought tickets for the Tuesday (8/19) performance. Looking forward to it! Will the CDs be available at the BYU shows?
