Do you own the Region 2 DVD of S&S08?
If so, perhaps you can help us out. Alert Janeite Cinthia spotted a post on the IMDB forum (and the same poster at the PBS forum) in which the poster claimed that certain scenes on the Region 2 DVD are missing on the Region 1 DVD. The missing scenes were described as:
The scenes that I remember are a scene where Colonel Brandon asks Elinor to speak to Edward about offering him a living on his estate. The other is when Marianne is ill, Mrs. Jennings comes in and has a conversation with Elinor.
If our Gentle Readers who own the Region 2 DVD can check if those scenes are on their DVDs, we would be most grateful.
I do remember those scenes from other adaptations, but not from the most recent one. Maybe this person is mixing the adaptations up? When I have more time I’ll check my DVD (region 2) out, if someone else hasn’t done that already by then.
Hi, I own the Region 2 Sense & Sensibility from 2008, and I just checked it: neither of these scenes are on it…I did notice the lack of a Colonel Brandon scene where he asks Elinor to extend the offer of the living to Edward when I first watched it: it’s just not in the film (at least not the Region 2 DVD version)…thanks!
No, I cannot find those scenes in my (region 2) copy either. Now having been obliged to review this movie once more, it has become more obvious to me just how cheesy this movie is. I have no further intention of putting on the region 1 version just to make a side-by-side comparison—just can’t bear to see any more of it. I think I shall go and reread the book instead, to get rid of this unpleasant taste in my palate… and, more importantly, to celebrate this day, the death anniversary of our dearest Jane.
I really appreciate you have verified the information. Like Franka, I suspected that the person was mixing adaptations. As I only own the region 1 DVD, I could only check that and the videos uploaded to a certain site when it was shown in UK, in neither of those the scenes abovementioned appeared. Thanks a lot
Region 2 does not include those scenes. I believe the director says on the bonus that they filmed the Brandon talks to Elinor scene, but they didn’t include it because of time.
But the region 1 disc does have this scene? All I have is the region 2 and I haven’t watched it recently.
Julie, the region 1 disc does not have such scenes either, so the question was whether the scenes were filmed and put on the region 2 disc but left off of the region 1 disc.
