One for the geeks
We found this hilarious, but that’s because we are an Intarwebz geek.
The recent Microsoft attempts at acquiring Yahoo! made me think of a regency romance, far trashier than Jane Austen:
Miss Yahoo! shrank back against the piano, pale but determined. “Sir,” she gasped, “your offer insults me. You think my love can be bought with trinkets!”
The Marquis de Microsoft stroked his moustache and raised a haughty eyebrow. “Madam, I have made you a respectable offer. I am a wealthy man with a large and reliable fortune. ‘Twould be madness to refuse me.” He stalked to the fireplace and stared deep into the flames, gritting his teeth. “Furthermore, my dear, I have told half of London that I shall marry you and marry you I shall!”
She glared at his figure, hunched powerfully over the fireplace, and strengthened her resolve. “I do not wish to marry… you.”
Just then, the door burst open and Sir Guy of Google charged into the room. “Unhand her, sir!” he demanded, slightly unnecessarily, for the two were standing some distance from one another, each disdainful in their mutual dislike.
Sir Guy of Google!!! *snort* This definitely gets the award for “least annoying appropriation of the first sentence of P&P.” And if Sir Guy of Google looks anything like THAT Sir Guy *points to photo at left* well, we’ll be cheering for him even if he turns out to be the bad, uh, guy.

This post made my Friday. Aside from the hilarious parody, the sight of Mr. Armitage clad in black and leather has me drooling.

I’m feeling all googley at the mere site of Sir Guy Thornton….oh yeah, and the parody was neat too:)
May 16th, 2008 at 7:47 am
And he’s affecting my spelling also, I do know how to spell sight…
May 16th, 2008 at 9:22 am
What a sight!!! You made my day, Mags *grin*.
Later on, when I have calmed myself, I will read the post

Hmmm, I’ve always preferred Google to any other man….er, search engine.
May 16th, 2008 at 11:51 am
Made my Friday too. Brilliant.

A couple of weeks ago, I emerged from the underground train station on my way to work and was waylaid by a young man in a jerkin. “My lady!” he cried.
Me: *is accustomed to city weirdos, keeps walking*
Young Man in Jerkin: *said something in bad faux English accent that I don’t remember, proffers bag of “gold coins” with Robin Hood logo on it*
Me: *flashes on Sir Guy, perks up* Oooh, Robin Hood! I’ve seen that!
YMiJ: Oh! Do you like it!
Me: Yes, but I cheer for the bad guys.
YMiJ: …
I went to work and related this tale to my co-workers, who were all “Robin Hood? Huh?”
So I sent them the pic in the post, along with this and this, to explain Why I Cheer For The Bad Guys. Happy Friday, all.

Those pictures of Sir Guy make me want to root for the bad guy too. I was hoping they would cast Richard Armitage as Mr. Darcy in Jane Austen Handheld, but they have cast Goran Visnjic in the role instead.
May 16th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Goran Visnjic???? No way! I mean, I love Luka and all, but…
Really, with all the interest on this thread (and pretty much every time I ever mention or put his photo on a post here) you’d think someone would put 2 and 2 together and cast Mr. Armitage in a Jane Austen-related movie already.

Mags, you didn’t show them pics of Allan A Dale?! He is cute! And, in season 2, a reason to cheer for the bad guys.
May 16th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Yes, Mags, thanks for my daily dose of Armitage! Sir Guy of Google is hilarious. I just don’t get that Marian. Why would you go for Robin (who to me resembles more of a disenfranchised bass player in an emo band than a hardened war veteran), instead of the smoldering, black-leathered hotness that is Sir Guy. Does it really matter that he may have killed a few peasants–he’s hot!
This is my current favorite bit of Sir Guy YouTube silliness.

Goran Visnjic!!! But his accent, Louisa …..
Poor Jonas Armstong. It must be very depressing, when you are supposed to be the hero, to be continually denigrated in favour of a person whose character has in the past tried to kill his monarch and his own illegitimate child and has apparently done (something very bad) at the end of the last series just because that person looks wonderful in black leather.

GAH! SPOILERS! Kathleen, I had to edit your comment slightly. We’re only four episodes into Season 2 here in the States (don’t worry, I’ve seen it all–the UK fangirls hooked a sister up) so let’s be careful out there.
That video is a tad bit spoilerish, but it passes quickly enough, I guess…and I was sitting at work watching it on my Treo and somebody came by and commented on my “smile.” Oh yes.
And yeah, even after that very bad thing, I still gotta cheer for the bad guys. Keith Allen is an absolute riot (if bugeyed insane) as the Sheriff and yes, Alan is a cutie and does a good job embracing his black-leather side. The good guys are BORRRRRing. Cute but boring. I want to know what product Robin uses to keep his bangs so darned perfect while living in the forest. My bangs don’t last the walk to the train station in the morning.

OK, after having regained my senses, the parody is hilarious, my only complaint is this part:
“trashier than Jane Austen” *raising eyebrows*
Thanks for erasing the spoilers, Mags, in Latin America the second season started just 2 weeks ago (and I have resisted temptation to watch the rest through the unofficial sources), but I understand Sir Guy is magnificent in episode 3 this coming Sunday.
May 16th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
Has leather ever looked that good?
May 17th, 2008 at 9:35 am
Is season 2 on BBC America now? The DVD isn’t released until July 29. Since I’m cable-free, I have to wait until then.
May 17th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Glad the video made you smile, Mags.
I didn’t even think about spoilers. Sir Guy of Google has that effect on me.

LOL Karen.
