Alert Janeite Aad, who keeps us up to date on releases of Jane Austen DVDs in the Netherlands, let us know that a Just Entertainment will release a Jane Austen Collection, including Persuasion 2007, Northanger Abbey 1986, Pride and Prejudice 1980, and Sense and Sensibility 1971, on April 24. This set is, of course, Region 2 and we believe contains Dutch subtitles.

Aad also let let us know that Sony Benelux will release the Dutch edition of The Jane Austen Book Club on April 24. Mark your calendars in the Netherlands!

Also, the JABC DVD that has recently been released in the UK has Dutch subtitles, which is a rare luxury! Might be interesting for those who can’t wait for the Dutch release (like me ;) ).

Wow - what an interesting assortment of JA adaptations. They missed a representative from the 1990s in there!

  3. Franka Says:

Strange thing is that ITV’s ‘Persuasion’ is in this “BBC-collection”…

Nice to see S&S1 being made more available -even if it has the worst Marieanne. Wonder why they left out MP3 ? A JA collection I’d be interested to get my paws on is one with P&P (1967) and Emma (1960). Anyone got P&P (1967) ?

Franka, the reason why P3 is included is because although ITV commisioned it, Clerkenwell Films -which produced- did not hand to ITV the distribution rights, instead Clerkenwell has given it to BBC to distribute it outside UK.

A similar situation happens with P2, which although produced by BBC, Sony in charge of its international distribution.

And to make things even more strange, P1 is in a similar situation, as it was produced by Granada, but it has been distributed by BBC.

So, the only BBC P is P2, but due to the distribution rights, many people thing that P1 think is a BBC production and probably the same will happen with P3, although neither of those two were made by BBC.

I really liked “S&S0″ from 1971. Joanna David is a terrific Elinor and Robin Ellis is a very attractive Edward.

  7. Franka Says:

Ah, I see! Thanks for the explanation, Cinthia! :)
