Jane Austen adaptations on Hallmark Channel Latin America
Alert Janeite Cinthia let us know that three Jane Austen adaptations (Kate Beckinsale Emma, NA07, and MP07) will be shown on Tuesday nights this month on the Hallmark Channel Latin America with Spanish subtitles for most of the countries and Portuguese subtitles for Brazil. Emma will be shown on March 4 at 22.00 with two repeats, Wednesday at 10.00 and Thursday at 23.00. MP07 will be shown on March 11 at 22.00 with repeats on Wednesday at 10.00 and Thursday at 23.00 and NA07 will be shown on March 18 at 22.00 with repeats on Wednesday at 10.00 and Friday at 00.00.
So far, only Emma is on their website: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela.

Gracias, Cinthia! I passed the information on to our Janeite friends here. We own the video in English so we had not been able to share this version with our Mexican friends before. Thanks!
Si solo el Sr. Knightly fuera un poquito más amable…jeje

De nada, Baja Janeite. Now thinking about it, in Baja you will probably have it two hours earlier than the rest of Mexico, at 20:00 h. So do not forget it.
I also own the DVD in English and I had seen it previously on A&E Latin America with Spanish subtitles, but still whenever there is an Austen adaptation on tv (except for P&P3 which I still cannot tolerate) I will be watching it.
I think Mr. Knightley is a kind and amiable man, the problem is that in this adaptation there is no kind or amiable Mr. Knigthley (that is why I do not like it too much). As others have said before, Mark Strong is too strong for being knightley. Give me JN anytime, even John Carson or Paul Rudd but not MS. He, he.
I only hope MP3 and NA2, NA2 in particular are the complete versions. *crossing my fingers for that*

I really dislike P&P3 as well, Cinthia.
My daughter’s Latin friends (ages 18-34) DO like it, however! It got them interested in Jane Austen. My daughter has been having JA nights-showing those DVD’s that are dubbed or subtitled in Spanish-several times a year. We had a P&P 95 marathon at our house when Block Buster offered it in Spanish last year. Of course, they enjoyed that version sooo much more!
On Thursday, they plan to watch the Amanda Root “Persuasion”. Too bad that the new Persuasion did not have Spanish subtitles… Do you know when it will come out in Mexico?
P.S. Happy thought- Johnny Carson as Mr. Knightly!!
!VIVA JANE AUSTEN!

P2 has been broadcasted in Cinemax Latin America lately, but it seems the next showing is not scheduled until March 31st now (they had it yesterday).
Canal 22 has not scheduled P3 again yet (usually their contracts are for 3 to 5 broadcasts and there have been only 2 so far). Probably May or June. However, since BBC is distributing it, I believe it won’t be long before there is a DVD is out in Mexico by the same company that brought P&P2, Robin Hood Season 1,, the documentary Planet Earth and a few other BBC programs films lately, that is Peliculas en pantalla/On Screen Films ( http://www.peliculasenpantalla ). I only wish they would release more period miniseries over here.
BTW, when I said John Carson I mean the actor of that name who plays as Mr. Knightley in E1 (that is the BBC miniseries -1972), not Johnny Carson, the American presenter.
And just a bit off-topic. It seems Hallmark Channel will be showing also Bleak House in April, although they have given it the silly title of La casa del misterio (The House of Mistery) instead of La casa desolada, which is the name that the book has always received in Spanish. I have already complained to them about that.
