Freedom for Miss Austen!

Filed under: Miss Austen Regrets — Mags @ 9:29 am

Alert Janeite DeeDee let us know that there is an online petition to release Miss Austen Regrets on DVD on its own, not just bundled as an “extra” with S&S08. Freedom for Miss Austen! ;-)

Maybe the petition is to be directed to PBS not to BBC as BBC offers “Miss Austen Regrets” (2008) at BBC Shop on a single DVD for Region 2 and it costs 14,99 GB:

The cheapest price of 12,24 GB is at amazon.co.uk:

For Region 1 (USA and Canada) “Miss Austen Regrets” (2008) is offered on a single DVD by WGBH Shop and others for educational use only at 44,95 US:

    Thanks!

For once, I will not be signing an Austen petition. I am very happy that BBC is allowing us to have both MAR and S&S3 in a single package. Maybe it is because I have seen S&S3 and I like it and though I have not seen MAR, I am more than willing to buy it. Furthermore, I had known that they would also offer P3 (which I did not like, but I do not hate it) also in a package with the other two, I would not have ordered apart. The only drawback is that we have to wait until April to have them (MAR and S&S3, I mean).

So the BBC is releasing the DVD in March? I suppose that means we’ll finally get to see this in March as well in the UK? I can’t find an air date, so far…

    *Very Strange*!!
I signed up because I would love to see this film, and was told I am the 42nd petitioner.
I even ticked for my email to be available to the person who started this petition, but not to make it public.
And what do you think happens after you have submitted and click on ‘view all’ petitioners. Nothing happens, but some kind of speeding your computer download advertisement shows up.

    *slaps forehead*
When will I learn to be careful of the internet???
I’m worried that I made my email available to the petitioner.

Thanks, Boris for the information about the DVD at amazon.co.uk.

If only I had read your post before rushing in.

Let me be rightly understood. No DVDs are available for the present. There are only advertisements for pre-ordering and DVDs will be available in March and April. I am sure there will be many other resellers to appear until then offering different prices and there might be single DVD “Miss Austen Regrets” (2008) for Region 1, so do not be in a hurry to pre-order, just do regular search the Web for “Miss Austen Regrets DVD”.
As the movie is not yet watched in Europe there is nothing left but to enjoy the numerous comments enclosed herein and many reviews and articles published in the Web some of which wittily titled:
“Miss Austen regrets, but fans don’t”
“A Most Proper Marriage - Jane Austen and PBS”
“An advantageous marriage - Jane Austen and PBS”
“Adapter Andrew Davies reigns during PBS”, etc.

  6. Reeba Says:

Yes, Boris I know it is for pre-ordering, which I have happily done already. :-)
I was just regretting having jumped in to petition and give in my email address when the site turned out to be strange.

  7. DeeDee Says:

Reeba, I am the petition author, so there’s no need to worry.
