S&S08 DVDs: What’s on the DVD? (Region 2)
Alert Janeite Bert’s Region 2 DVD of Sense and Sensibility lists “Interviews with cast and crew” under DVD special features on the cover of the DVD, but there are no such interviews on the actual discs. E-mails and phone calls to BBC Shop have gone unreturned. We know that several Gentle Readers have received their DVDs, and there’s no information about special features either on Amazon UK or the BBC Shop; can someone please post in comments what exactly is listed and what is contained on the DVDs?

I received my DVD just last week and have to admit I was quite disappointed. It simply contains the series, commentaries (I think I’ve identified Dan Stevens, Hattie Morahan and the director out af the lot), a simply boring 30-minute-interview-part with Andrew Davies and producer Anne Pivcevic fondling their own bellies over their great achievement an constantly repeating bits of the almost-proposal-scene in the library. Plus there are a number of publicity shots, which I rather liked, that haven’t been on the internet before.
But only that, nothing more, is listet as “special features” on the cover.
What annoys me most is, that they often refer to shot but cut scenes in the commentary. Now my frenetic couriosity absolutly hates the fact that there are no cut scenes on the DVD at all (reckon I must have been very spoiled by last years “Jane Eyre”-DVD). And of course I’m quite put out by the fact, that you might get them on the R1-DVDs. Plus “Miss Austen Regrets” for the dot on the “i”… ;o)

Just received my DVD and the special features include the commentaries
as mentioned by Nancy.
The interview with the producer and the scriptwriter is also as mentioned by Nancy.
Just a couple of points though there are many, which I’ll wait patiently to discuss when the film is shown over there;
-the interview is the one where he talks about - hold your breath - people never noticing the *dark* side (seduction and duel)
- he hopes that the *wet shirt - Darcy scene* phenomena will get repeated with Edward’s cutting of wood *snicker*
There’s a lot more.
Oh yes!! As Nancy has mentioned. They can’t stop discussing the book- giving scene by Edward to Elinor in the library.
Personally I thought that it was not well done because this would be encouragement on his part and we at least have good thoughts for Edward for not doing so blatantly.
But having said that I must say it is a pleasure to watch the adaptation on a proper television screen
It improves! ;-D
