Some pictures from Lost in Austen

Filed under: Screen — Mags @ 7:45 am

Alert Janeite Carmen spotted this at ITV’s site. Not sure if the video on the page is related to it, as our browser “did not meet minimum requirements” (well, excuuuuuuuuse us). From one of the photos, it seems as though the young ladies are not wearing chemisettes. Hope that’s an evening scene. We’ve been promised sumptuous costumes, remember!

Clearly I need to pay more attention to these updates, I didn’t realise how many of the cast I would know! I adore Jemima’s work, I’m sure she’ll be brilliant, not matter how many failings, well, everything else may have.

  2. Arwen Says:

Amanda is wearing a purple dress. How could she afford it? At that time purple dye was extremely expensive and only the very wealthy would be able to afford that color fabric.

There are additional pictures on Hugh Bonneville’s website:

There is a brief clip of ‘Lost in Austen’ in the Winter 2008 highlights video on itv.com

  4. Laurel Ann Says:

Where are the pics of Lizzy in the loo? ;)

  5. Sylvia M. Says:

The ‘true’ story is in danger of being thrown off track by her presence. Because Amanda knows Jane Austen’s book so well she realises that she could ruin literary history for ever.

    1. She says yes to Mr. Collins. They marry.
    2. Gets chummy with Lady Catherine.
    3. Anne DeBourgh dies of her illness and Amanda gets Rosings in the new will somehow managing to pass up Sir Lewis DeBourg’s family.
    4. Amanda secretly kills off Mr. Bennet and gets Longbourne.
    5. Next, she kills off Mr. Collins and plays the grieving widow.
    6. Mr. Darcy proposes. They marry.
    7. Now she gets Mr. Darcy, Longbourne, Rosings, and Pemberley and they live happily ever after with the shades of Pemberley being really thus polluted!

  6. Lynne Says:

Sylvia — I think that your plotline would make an excellent film (in a Vanity Fair novel sort of way) just so long as the connections to Austen are completely stripped away.

  7. Mags Says:

I suspect it won’t be nearly that creative, unfortunately.

  8. Maisy Says:

Misspelling Longbourn is one of my pet peeves, right up there with misspelling Austen and Lizzy. Grrrr.
