Complete Jane Austen Region 1 DVDs available for preorder at WGBH
Thanks to Alert Janeite Silent Doug, who posted in the comments for the Region 2 S&S DVD, we discovered that WGBH has just about all the Region 1 DVDs for the Complete Jane Austen available for preorder, for release after their broadcast.
Northanger Abbey will be available first, on January 22, 2008. (Is it just us, or does JJ Feild look like somebody just kicked his Newfoundland in that cover photo?) Mansfield Park will be available on January 29. Persuasion will be available on February 12, and S&S, as mentioned below, on March 1.
Miss Austen Regrets so far seems available only “for educational use” (not sure what that means; possibly licensed to play to a large group?) and will be available on April 15, 2008. We imagine the regular consumer version will be available at the same time.
ETA: We’ve added links to the sidebar, to Amazon where available; interestingly, Persuasion 07 is listed as available in mid-January, which actually makes sense, since that is when it will be broadcast. As with the region 2 releases, they are not offering them as a set.

Why do they always do such a horrible job with the covers? The Reigion 2 DVD covers look so much better… :’(

So agree with Heather. I’m rather saddened - only Persuasion looks the equal to the R2 set - and that was the weakest of the covers in that group to begin with.

They’re all distributed by different companies–that’s why no set; also probably why the covers are all kind of different-looking.

I like the covers. They have a nice photograph with each couple on the cover. At least we didn’t get the P2 “nibbler” cover or Col. Brandon on Persuasion instead of Captain Wentworth like on the “ones”!

True. I just like the composition of the MP and NA covers in the UK better.

I knew the region 2’s were distributed by different companies, but I thought the region 1’s were being distributed by WGBH?

I like the covers. I think they’re superior to the R2 covers. At least they kept Persausion the same that was the best of the R2 covers.
