More info on Sense and Sensibility 1971 (yes, 1971!) DVD release

Filed under: Screen — Mags @ 7:42 pm

A while back we posted about an older adaptation of Sense and Sensibility that would be released by a Dutch film company. Alert Janeite Maisy let us know that a poster at the Republic of Pemberley has ordered and seen the film, and reports that, despite the cast information on the DVD listing that relates to the 1980s BBC production, the DVD is indeed the 1971 version with Joanna David (Mrs. Gardiner in P&P95) as Elinor and that the film is in English. Please remember that the DVD is coded for Region 2, so you must have the proper equipment to view it (please refer to this comment by Tony A. for information about that).

Have I been sleeping under a rock or something ? Yippee ! I’m doing handstands….I’ve wanted to see S&S 1971 for years. Now, can a reader of Dutch kindly confirm Bol.com shops internationally …I shall cry into dead leaves if the answer is no.

Hey Mandy! I think they also ship DVD’s to foreign contries, but I’m not 100% sure. Perhaps you could send them an email about it here: klantenservice@bol.com. You could also try to order it by sending the production company (Just Entertainment) an email: info@justonline.nl.

    Hope that helps! :)

That was me posting above… For some reason I wasn’t logged in, sorry!

You can also order this from Proxis.com

They appear to offer an international mail order service but I haven’t made an exhaustive check of the list of countries LOL. As an added bonus, the website can be translated into French or English, for the non-Dutch speakers among us.

I ordered my copy this morning and the site has confirmed delivery will be in 10 days.

Many thanks Franka, will do. Helen, may I just ask if you ordered from Proxis or Bol.com ? :)

  6. Helen B Says:

I ordered from Proxis. Delivery charge was 2 euros, which is remarkably cheap IMO. It may be more for deliveries outside Europe, of course.

I really want to see this, but I’m not sure I want to spend so much on it without previewing first.
