Review of Northanger Abbey at Salisbury Playhouse

Filed under: Stage — Mags @ 7:09 am

The Stage has a review of the stage production of Northanger Abbey currently running at the Salibury Playhouse, adapted and directed by Tim Luscombe (misidentified in the article as Christopher Luscombe).

Northanger Abbey is early, girlie Jane Austen with a teenage heroine hooked on Gothic romance and an imagination in overdrive.

Yeah, okay. *rolls eyes*

If anyone gets to see it, we would love to have your report!

“It’s a shame that the piece runs out of steam ending abruptly in reconciliation and marriage, but Austen can take the blame for that.”
riiiight, ’cause it’s not like she made Henry and Catherine wait 6 months while they got the General’s permission or anything! I echo your *rolls eyes* action!

Christopher Luscombe threw me off completely, and I wondered if things had changed since last I read about it.

Somehow the beginning also put me off, and I thought, if that’s how he sees it what’s he going to say? Especially as he thinks it was written and directed by a Christopher Luscombe. ;-)
But he seemed to appreciate the rest.

Will give a review to the best of my ability :-) by the 3rd or 4th of October.

Here’s a more favorable review from the Salisbury Journal.
