Make that S&S2008

Filed under: Sense and Sensibility 2008 — Mags @ 12:44 am

The Miss Dashwoods Alert Janeite Franka found a link at the BBC website that lists the new Sense and Sensibility series as being broadcast on the BBC in 2008. We know it will be broadcast first in the U.S. in 2008 as well on Masterpiece Theatre. These sort of things make our year-numbering system a little wonky at times, but we submit it’s still easier than trying to explain why the Garson/Olivier P&P isn’t P&P1 or why the Ehle/Firth P&P is P&P2 to someone who doesn’t know the 1980 series exists.

Dorothy has ceremoniously changed the name of the category, so make sure if you’ve linked to the category anywhere that you update the link, as it is part of the title.

We have a winner!

Old Friends and New Fancies Congratulations to Niamh, the winner of a copy of Old Friends and New Fancies by Sybil Brinton, courtesy of Sourcebooks. Thanks to all who entered, and if you didn’t win, we still have some swag in store in the coming weeks.

As a matter of interest, the best-loved villain of this very unscientific sample of Janeites was Wickham by one vote over the dashing but dastardly Willoughby. One respondent asked if we meant the villain best liked as a character or most loathed, which is a good question. We think whatever draws you to a character makes him or her your favorite, so either one worked for us! Other popular villains (for whatever value of popularity applies) were Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Henry Crawford, Caroline Bingley, General Tilney, Lady Susan, John Thorpe, Frank Churchill, Lucy Steele, Weasel Boy Elliot, Fanny Dashwood, and of course Mrs. Norris.
