And y’all thought the wet shirt was hot

Filed under: Online, Screen — Mags @ 11:52 pm

Wait till Mr. Darcy starts whipping the footmen.

This is an excerpt from the film Bedrooms and Hallways (which has been in our Netflix queue forever, and really should be moved up!)

If you think you spotted several Austen film alumni, you are correct: Harriet Walter (Fanny Dashwood in S&S95, though to us she is forever Harriet Vane), Tom Hollander (Mr. Collins in P&P05), and James Purefoy (Tom Bertram in MP99) as Slashy!Darcy. Of course, the gentlemen were yet to make their Austen-film debuts when this film was made. Jennifer Ehle (Lizzy Bennet in P&P95) is in this film, too.

Thanks to Alert Janeite Laurie for sending this!

Why is Mr Darcy gay? :-0

  4. Mags Says:

It’s a dream sequence, and the dreaming character is gay. (It’s the guy playing the footman.)

  5. Amelia Says:

They guy playing the servant is Kevin McKidd, who incidentally is in the HBO serios Rome with James Purfoy. Thanks for posting this - very funny!

I love this movie! I actually saw it in the theater when it first came out, but had totally forgot about his dream sequences! The whole thing is very funny especially if you watch it after seeing the HBO series Rome and you see that it’s Lucius Vorenus getting it on with Mark Antony. All your favorites from Austen adaptations are all delightful in this film!
