JASNA launches Austen on Film section on its Web site
JASNA has launched a comprehensive Austen on Film section on its Web site. The section is jam-packed with links and information, including cast lists and information about every film adaptation organized by their relation to each of Jane Austen’s novels, information about films that contain homages or references to Jane Austen and her work, biopics, documentaries, and even a few YouTube videos.
A very special feature of the section is links to articles about various films that have appeared in the association’s journal, Persuasions and Persuasions On-Line (some available online for the first time ever), giving scholarly context and additional insights into the films.
Check it out; there might even be a film you’ve missed on there somewhere!
(Full disclosure: the Editrix assisted with the effort, and couldn’t be more pleased with the result.)

Just two comments, could Cold Comfort Farm be part of the “For your consideration” at the Emma filmography? And in other JA-related films why is not The Real Jane Austen mentioned?

Cinthia, The Real JA isn’t on the list because it’s never been released in the U.S. (or I think Canada) and it was felt it would be kind of mean to tease people with something they couldn’t see; though of course I have seen it through your kindness.
Of course it will be added if it is ever SHOWN here! That’s also why we didn’t list all the BBC movies of P&P from the 1950s, etc. Wishbone was iffy for a while but since it’s being rebroadcast right now it made the cut. We also haven’t listed the new S&S or Miss Austen Regrets yet since so little is known about them.
Is CCF that Emmaish? It’s been a while. I’ll Netflix it and make a recommendation.

Under the listing for “You’ve Got Mail” it says “See if you can spot a small homage to the 1980 BBC miniseries near the end of the film.”
I’m puzzled by this - I’ve seen both multiple times, and I don’t know what’s being referenced.
Enlightenment please?

She sees the dog…the penny drops…the master follows.
(Don’t want to give it away TOO much.)

I want to thank the Mistress of AustenBlog for her research, writing, and construction of Austen on Film. It’s there because she cared. Thank you, Mags, for a magnificent addition to the JASNA web site.

Ah, I see the connection. Thanks.

Marsha, you make me blush. I certainly did not work alone–and it was your idea in the first place!

Is CCF that Emmaish?
Sure it is, Mags. In an early scene, she tells Mary, “I want to be a writer. When I’m 53, I mean to write a novel as good as Persuasion, but with a modern setting.”
And then a little while later, the Emma syndrome starts to become evident, “I have such a lot in common with Jane Austen. Neither of us could endure a mess.”
Then later, addressing Charles Fairford, “Anyway, you’re not enough of a challenge. I like to organize things and tidy up.”
And when the topic of marriage comes up, she says, “I believe in arranged marriages, don’t you?”
“Rather out of date.”
“Not at all. I’ve always like the phrase ‘A marriage has been arranged.’ When I feel like it, I’ll arrange one.”
And when she gets to Cold Comfort, Robert Poste’s child sets about doing her thing of fixing things for everyone.
I have not gone back to it lately, so I cannot attest to the whether or not the exact dialogue occur in the book as well.

I’m so glad to have found this post. I have visited the JASNA site before, but had not spent much time there. Of course, there is no local chapter of the society where I live, so I feel out of the JA loop. I’m actually really glad I’ve found all of these sites!
The film section is very detailed and I love that it has films on it that I’ve not heard of in connection with JA. I’m always interested in new versions and adaptations of the books!
