The Jane Austen Book Club trailer is online

Filed under: The Jane Austen Book Club — Mags @ 12:23 pm

Alert Janeite Robyn sent us a link to the trailer for the film adaptation of The Jane Austen Book Club.

We loved the book very much and have mixed feelings about the trailer; it seems better than we expected, but there certainly are some changes.

And we confess to a bit of a *squeeee* that the “every savage can dance” scene seems to have made it! La!

Oh my God, this looks so great!!! I’m so excited about this movie and the trailer looks very promising! :D Hugh Dancy is my favourite actor and seeing him talk about Jane Austen in a movie is fantastic… *Sigh* (Although they made it seem as if Grigg never heard of JA before, which isn’t exactly like the book, but oh well, who cares? Lol! ;) )

Thanks SO much for posting this, Mags! :)

Thay Lord, is that Matthew Santos playing Daniel? I’m so looking forward to this-since I got the audio book of JABC, I’ve read my paper copy at least twice. Main change I noticed was no sign of Corrine, so I assume she must have become a man for the film?

  3. Mags Says:

Yep, that’s my boyfriend Jimmy Smits (one of my boyfriends, anyway). One of the reasons I am looking forward to this film with cautious optimism. (Been burned too many times, friends!) I like Hugh Dancy but am still wishing that my Sweet Babboo (Adrien Brody for those who don’t know) had been cast as Grigg. Might have been the only chance I’ll ever have of hearing him utter Austen lines.

There was a shot with Maggie Grace in bed with a woman, so I guess Corinne is in it. I figure that even though it will be classified as a “chick flick,” the ladies will be able to drag their men along with promises of girltouching. ;-) This film will be HUGE!

  4. Tony A Says:

John, IMDb shows Corrine being played by Parisa Fitz-Henley, and she is in the trailer, at around 00:00:45, in the bathtub scene with Maggie Grace (Allegra). She, Parisa, is probably not a big enough name to warrant a credit in the trailer. I just love Emily Blunt; her line, “Do you think Austen is the capital of Texas?” cracks me up.

And to answer your question regarding Daniel, he’s played by Jimmy Smits.

To think that I liked The Lake House because of its Jane Austen/Persuasion connection, this one will probably put me into JA overload. Bring it on!

The audiobook narration is not first-grade, but I’m getting it anyway.

  5. John Says:

Hey, whaddaya know, you’re both right. Just watched the trailer for the fifth time, and saw Corrine. My bad. I like Jimmy Smits, and although I’m sorry for Mags’s sake there is no Adrien, Grigg looks promising.

  6. Julie T Says:

Wowee! I loathed the book, but thanks to this trailer, I might just condescend to plunk down $9 to see the film!

  7. Tamara Says:

I agree with Julie; I couldn’t stand the book and feel the same about the movie, unfortunately. But I don’t see how I could NOT see a movie about Jane. I would rather watch one of the cruddy adaptations than this. At least those have pretty Regency dresses. bummed.

    Tamara;
I feel that PBS is making a Huge mistake bringing ITV’s “Austen Season ” to “Masterpiece Theatre”.
