Talk about swept off your feet

Filed under: Janeites Run Amok, Online — Mags @ 2:06 am

Normally we don’t get into posting the many, many music videos based on Jane Austen adaptations (because, as we said, there’s so darned many of ‘em) but this one, sent by Alert Janeite Angie, made us laugh.

…It is meant ironically, right? Of course it is. :-D

    FanTASTic.

  2. Alison Says:

Well if that was an advert, I’d certainly be buying ;-)

  3. Angie Says:

I knew I had to share it. The editing is just so perfect!! Cheers for the recognition :D

  4. Diana I-C Says:

Heehee. But I wonder why they chose to included Willoughby, and not Brandon?

  5. Carmen Says:

Because she loves Willoughby! She can’t help it….

PD: I will tell her about your opinions.

  6. Maisy Says:

OLO, that was so much fun that I had to watch it twice. I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I couldn’t identify all of the clips. (Who was that masked man?) :O

  7. Molly Says:

By the way, along those same lines —

    Meow.

  8. mjryan Says:

    Brilliant!

  9. Sion Mc Says:

Wow, superb :-) Thanks for that.

  10. Franka Says:

Thanks for posting this, such a great clip! Hilarious! :D

  11. Carmen Says:

Maisy, I think he is the Phantom of the Opera (Gerald Butler without the mask). Unfortunately, I haven’t seen the film yet.

  12. RhubarbsMom Says:

Thanks so much!!! Just what I needed after a long, hard day of working with corporate lawyers in Manhattan. Made me laugh out loud and swoon at the same time, no mean feat.

  13. Carol Goldsmith Says:

Can anyone identify all the clips? Most were familiar, but a few I hadn’t seen before. I agree…great editing. What a hoot!

  14. Angie Says:

    I can. -sigh-

Persuasion, Northanger Abbey, Mansfield Park {two versions}, An American Haunting, Daniel Deronda, Under The Greenwood Tree, North and South, Phantom of the Opera, Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Tess of the D’Urbervilles and Jane Eyre.

  15. Lynne Says:

I think amid all the current discussion of drenched trousers, I’m very surprised that our friend Mr. Firth is not included in this video.

  16. Caroline Says:

Lynne, I agree- what is the world coming to when “they” don’t recognise Mr Firth’s Darcy as worthy of inclusion? ;-) However, he IS in the link that Molly posted, so maybe that’s good enough.

Angie- you deserve a medal for all that hard work identifying each and every movie/miniseries! ;-)

  17. Diana I-C Says:

I think Colin Firth wasn’t there because the person who made the video didn’t have access to any P&P2 clips.

  18. Diana I-C Says:

Also: Which Jane Eyre is it that’s being used?

  19. Carmen Says:

As I am member of a forum where the video creator is, she has told me that she would have loved to have Mr Firth in the video, but she didn’t have any clips of Pride and Prejudice. Anyway, I’ll try to tell her that she SHOULD do a video with our Colin. You can see this in in her explanation, in the youtube page of the video.

The Jane Eyre version is the 2006 BBC’s one.

  20. Kerry Says:

The 2006 BBC production of Jane Eyre starring Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens is FANTASTIC - RENT IT NOW!!!!

  21. Joan Ellen Says:

I can’t believe they left out DAVID BAMBER!!!!
Which is what makes me pretty sure it WASN’T intended to be ironic. ;-)

  22. Maisy Says:

Thanks Carmen and Angie. I’d never heard of An American Haunting.

Well, I showed this clip to my husband and son. They both said they liked it, but also thought that “some people have an awful lot of free time on their hands.” ;)

Incidentally, is that Jennifer Saunders singing “I Need a Hero” from Shrek 2?

And while we’re at it, I HAVE to share this YouTube link to an ITV Jane Austen video set to Crystallised Beauty. I think the editing is nice and tight, taking advantage of the swells and rhythm of the piece, even if the films are far from perfect. Enjoy!

  23. Lynne Says:

hmmm. I wasn’t suggesting to add him in, just that I was expecting him to be there based on the introduction given to the video. I think I’m getting tired of all this Colin Fitzwilliam Firth Darcy talk. Why can’t we just let him be and give true credit of Darcy where it is deserved: Jane Austen.
