Willoughby and Edward Ferrars cast for S&S07
Alert Janeite Franka let us know that the IMDB is reporting that Dominic Cooper, previously listed as Edward Ferrars, actually is playing Willoughby, and that Dan Stevens is playing Edward Ferrars. Franka opined that Dan Stevens looks more like a Willoughby, but we think Dominic Cooper has a bad-boy vibe to him that will suit Willoughby, especially since we’ve been told that the first scene will reveal his villainy anyway.
As always, treat this as rumor until confirmed somewhere more official than the IMDB.

Much, much better. When I saw Dominic Cooper as Edward Ferrars I saw the words MISCAST all over the page.
I think Dan Stevens is a much better fit and Dominic already has a fitting image so should fit in well as Willoughby (though I had secretly hoped for someone like Henry Cavill or Rupert Evans from “North & South”).
…I’m still secretly hoping for Richard Armitage as Col. Brandon but one can only hope!

Sorry to disappoint but, according to my sources, David Morrissey is to play Brandon…

I was just starting to get used to Dominic Cooper being Edward and believing he would do well as his appearance is rather plain like Edward’s should be. I don’t like Dan Stevens at all as Edward, too much of a pretty boy, too much like Hugh Grant (who was fabulous but this version should be more accurate).
I’d rather see Dan Stevens as Willoughby as I could definitely see him running away with Marianne’s heart, but Dominic Cooper does have a bad boy vibe so we’ll see what happens!
I hoped to have seen Richard Armitage as Captain Wentworth but Rupert Penry-Jones made up for all of that. I don’t think Richard would make a very good Col. Brandon because his appearance is too dark and brooding not at all JA’s humble Colonel. I’d also love to see Rupert Evans again as I loved him in North & South but he is a little too old for either Edward or Willoughby and a little too young for Colonel Brandon.
Chris Scarfe: Sorry to disappoint but, according to my sources, David Morrissey is to play Brandon…
And what sources would those be? Are they reliable? We’d definitely love to hear more about this if your sources are reliable.

I just looked up David Morrissey and he looks like he will be a fine Col. Brandon. Just the right age too. I can see how Marianne would fall for a young, pretty-boy, Willoughby faster then Brandon. This Brandon is pretty good looking the longer you see him, but he’s not drop-dead gorgeous. I hope this source is true.

I just looked up David Morrissey’s age and he’s going to be 43 in June. I guess he’s not just the right age as I thought. Oh, well. I don’t think it will make too much difference.

Oh I love David Morrissey. He’s a fantastic actor! I hope the rumours are true…

Oh goodness…if David Morrissey is cast I might die. I want to puke just thinking of his character (Bradley Headstone) in BBC’s Our Mutual Friend.

This is being filmed around Lincoln’s Inn in April. Those working there have been asked to ensure that “cars and bicycles are not within shot”!
