The Problem With Podcasts
We have had reports that users cannot download the Classic FM podcasts of the last two parts of MP and the first part of NA. The URL for each file is incorrect, but we don’t know how to fix it from the user end. We e-mailed them from their contact form and suggest our readers who have experienced difficulty do the same. Perhaps someone in the UK could even call and let them know about the problem.
ETA: NA Parts 1 and 2 are fixed and currently available for download. We were able to download Parts 6 and 7 of MP by using the “Download” link, correcting the filename in the browser screen, and then using the Firefox extension UnPlug to save the file once it started to play.

This morning I’m able to download NA part 1, but 6 & 7 of MP are still not working. I have sent a message through the contact form three times, so I hope it’s fixed soon.

I had no problem downloading any of the parts. I signed up via iTunes Music Store and iTunes is loading every new episode automatically. Maybe that solves the problem?
How did you all like the podcast? I don’t mind that they abriged the book, but I think they’ve done it in a very bad way. It can be done better - I have the Naxos audiobook read by Juliet Stevenson and it is about the same lenght. And much superior in the flow of the plot.

My podcast client (Juice, not iTunes) downloaded MP fine but they won’t play because the files aren’t recognized. There is a space in the URL.

I’ve been using the “Download it” links, not the “Podcast” links. This way I control when the files are downloaded, instead of relying on the service. Also, I can save them as MP3 files on my computer and play them with any MP3 player, not just iTunes or an iPod. I’ve done this for all the files they’ve posted, including MP 6 and 7 using the corrected links below.
To download MP part 6, copy and paste this link into the Firefox browser:
http://www.creationpodcasts.com/audio/podcast-2007-03-17-45018.mp3
To download MP part 7, copy and paste this link into the Firefox browser:
http://www.creationpodcasts.com/audio/podcast-2007-03-18-45000.mp3
This should work in IE, I’ve done it in the past, but I couldn’t get it to work from this site.
(If you need more help: Access the page and wait for it to finish downloading, i.e., Firefox indicates it is finished downloading data for the page. Once the download is complete, from Firefox’s File menu select the “Save Page As…” option. Your computer will now save the MP3 file to the hard drive. Both steps will take a little while as these are large files.)

I have iTunes, and I haven’t had any problems. I open iTunes, and whichever is the current episode starts loading. Except for tonight. Part III of Northanger Abbey hasn’t loaded yet.

I just got part 3 of NA, but I haven’t been able to get part 2 yet. Like Missyisms, I’m downloading them as mp3. files.
Missyisms, could you please post us a link for part 2 of NA?

Hi Maisy, the NA part 2 download problem appears to be a different issue than it was with MP parts 6 and 7. There were typos in the links for MP 6 and 7, when the typo was fixed, the link worked. But with NA 2, the link appears correct (i.e., no obvious typos like an extra space or letter), but there is nothing on the page to download. Does that make sense; it’s odd to explain.
It looks like they finally fixed the links for MP 6 and 7, so maybe they read the emails listeners sent. Let’s send emails to the link Mags listed above in the orginal post, but also to creation.info@creation.com.
Sorry I can’t help more!
Missy

Thanks for trying, Missyisms!

Hey Maisy, it looks link the link for NA part 2 has been fixed. I’ve started downloading the day each part is posted, instead of doing several at once. The downloads for the current day have worked so far. Enjoy.

Persuasion became available as of yesterday. The “Getting Inside ITV1’s Persuasion” includes an interview with Rupert P-J and Sally Hawkins. I just loaded it, so I haven’t yet listened to it.

They work OK with iTunes as a subscribed podcast, but the link is not very stable. I had to keep clickingo n them to get the whole files, since it kept dropping the connection. But it worked eventually.
During some of the episodes of Mansefield Park there are repeated sections - they have not been well edited at all. I guess this might be because they are not being broadcast on Classic FM itself (I think). Also, they have really annoyingly dramatic little snippets of tuneless music here and there!
