Photos from ITV Austen films

Filed under: Mansfield Park 2007, Northanger Abbey 2007, Persuasion 2007 — Mags @ 5:59 am

Steph from the C19 forum scanned the photos from the Independent article that we snarked yesterday. Alert Janeite Sylvia M. received permission to share the scans with the Gentle Readers of AustenBlog.

Mansfield Park - as Sylvia pointed out, no Edmund!

Persuasion

Northanger Abbey - looks like Mr. Thorpe is making off with poor Catherine.

The NA picture looks like it may have been taken in conjunction with the Radio Times photo we saw earlier.

Nice to get to see these; thanks!

  2. Lisa Says:

Interesting pictures. I don’t particularly like the way Sally Hawkins looks like in that pic - surely Anne is not the most cheerful of characters, but she looks overly gloomy or something.

  3. Ina Says:

I’m confused. Who is supposed to be whom in the MP picture?

  4. Sylvia M. Says:

    MP photo from L-R:

Maria Bertram (Michelle Ryan), Mr.Rushworth (Rory Kinnear), Julia Bertram (Catherine Steadman), Tom Bertram (James D’Arcy), Fanny Price (Billie Piper)

  5. Laurie Says:

I’m totally in love with James D’Arcy as Tom, I’m completely ready for him to be my favorite character of the new Mansfield park movie!
And don’t Michelle Ryan & Rory Kinnear look fine as Mr. & Mrs. Rushworth? Catherine Steadman seems a bit mousy to be Julia (at least here).

And that poor man with the crutches that Mr. Thorpe has almost run over! That promises to be a very entertaining scene! :)

  6. Elaina Says:

Too bad there’s no Edmund, although isn’t he supposed to be the guy who played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter 4?

  7. Mags Says:

I look at that photo of James D’Arcy and I think, can Andrew Davies really think that naked bathing scenes are sexier than THAT?

  8. Mags Says:

No, Edmund is played by Blake Ritson, who was the voice of Cedric Diggory in the HPIV video game. Slight difference. ;)

  9. LauraGrace Says:

    Neat pictures!

I agree about Tom. He looks great, and very in-character.

Maria Bertram’s dress is so very odd. Is that notched bodice piece (it comes to the natural waist?) part of the pelisse? Weird—to me anyway!

I wish we could see Thorpe’s expression though, it must be particularly gleeful. :D

  10. Rosa Cotton Says:

Awww, no Edmund! *pout* But everyone else in the MP photo looks great. I think I’m really going to like Tom.

Poor Catherine! Wonder what Mr. Thorpe’s expression was. Looks like that will be a very entertaining scene. :D

  11. Elaina Says:

Hehe, good to know! I thought the actual actor would be too young…lol

  12. Ina Says:

Thanks Mags. I must say from this shot, Ms. Piper does not look very Fanny-like. But photographers can make things (and people) look odd sometimes. I believe I shall quite like this Mr. Tom Bertram. He looks every other inch a gentleman. ;)

  13. Zoe Says:

Well at least we have James D’Arcy to counteract the blinding lack of the gorgeous Joe Beattie. Much complaining has come from me on that oversight…

Re. Edmund - Cedric Diggory was played by Robert Pattinson and is only 20 so he probably would look quite young compared to Billie Piper. Blake Ritson is nowhere in sight and my curiosity is piqued!!

James D’Arcy looks quite handsome as Tom. I quite agree that he will probably be my favorite in the new version of MP. I’m still very skeptical about Billie Piper. I watch “Dr. Who” quite often and just saw on the (?) “Ruby in the Smoke” on PBS and she just looks far too modern to be a Georgian heroine (and a modest and down-to-earth heroine at that). I hope she proves me wrong or else MP will be a big disappointment.

Can’t wait until “Persuasion” and “Northanger Abbey”!!! Everything I’ve seen about these 2 adaptations look great so far!

That picture of Sally Hawkins makes her look like a rodent.

    I am not amused.
