Alert Janeite Amo sent us a link to a version of this article at a different site. According to our Google Alert, it has been picked up and published in about a million newspapers, magazines and Web sites, presumably because they can’t resist the juicy celebrity dirt. The juicy celebrity dirt isn’t really our concern, though, nor do we really care about Anne Hathaway’s mental health deep down in our wizened spinster heart, but this tidbit is, of course, germane to AustenBlog.
As for Hathaway, she also dished about her next role to the quintessentially British mag, that of literary legend Jane Austen in the period piece Becoming Jane.
“I was having doubts,” she said of the part. “But then I met Emma [Thompson], who asked me what I was doing. I couldn’t tell her I was not going to play Jane Austen. So I just did it.”
At first, we weren’t sure if we were going to bother to post even that bit. We really had no idea what to say about it. We approve? We disapprove? Who the heck died and made Emma Thompson the Alpha Janeite? But, in the interest of serving you, our Gentle Readers, here ’tis.
