Sloooooooow
Busy finishing up last edits on Chapter 2 of There Must Be Murder, and there’s not much news anyway, so nothing tonight. We might have something more interesting to post tomorrow, but it requires a little work *shudder* on our part.
In the meantime, go check out some other Austen-related blogs…
The Jane Austen Quote of the Day
Jane Austen’s World (Oooh, Beau Brummell! We have a weakness for him.)
Or go find some fan fiction at the Jane Austen Fan Fiction Index. (Username and passwords below the jump…)
Or go read a BrontëBlog or two.
Or see what Geoffrey Chaucer or his merrye bande of co-bloggerres have been up to. (Do not miss his review of the entertainment Serpents on a Shippe, or the ballade he wrote for Litel Lowys (his son), Straight Ovtta Londoun.)
Did anyone see The Ruby in the Smoke on Masterpiece Theatre last Sunday? It was like a preview for the upcoming Jane Austen flicks…Billie Piper (Sally Lockhart) will play Fanny Price, JJ Feild (Fred the photographer dude) will play Henry Tilney, Hayley Atwell (Fred’s sister–you see we’re not great with names) will play Mary Crawford (and she’s certainly pretty enough), and Julie Walters (Mrs. Holland) will play Mrs. Austen in Becoming Jane. We thought Julie Walters was smashing but the film overall left us lukewarm. A couple of Austen alum in there as well…Robert Glenister, who played Mr. Selby, was Captain Harville in Persuasion 1995 and David Harewood, who played the twins Nicholas and Matthew Bedwell, played Henry Tilney in the BBC radio play of NA last year (click for Heather L’s review), freaking us out mightily in scenes that David and JJ had together.
Talk amongst yourselves! And click -more- for the username and password of the JAFF Index…

Fred’s sister’s name was Rosa.
I didn’t know that she’s going to be playing Mary Crawford, though! Interesting…

I knew she was going to be Fanny Price, and I’m not thrilled about it. But THAT was Henry Tilney? Oh dear.

Did anyone else catch the Colonel Brandon reference? It was quick, but during a flashback scene where they were discussing friends of Captain Lockhart, his name was listed among them.
The movie was “eh” but the book was “eh” also, so I’m not going to totally fault them. And the scenes where David Harewood and JJ Feild were together were entertaining for me (a bona fide NA geek) as I kept wondering if contact between Future Henry and Past Henry would create some sort of hole in the universe
Too bad they couldn’t have a Jack Russell Terrier running around to make the scene extra special!

I was so excited when I happened to see Billie Piper’s name in the movie’s info that I knew I had to watch it if only to see the girl who would be our next Fanny Price and boy was I in for the surprise of my life! I knew JJ Field as soon as I saw him and his smile, humor, tall, lean, scholarly appearence will suit Mr. Tilney perfectly! He’s not quite handsome, but very near it and his comment “And if you can make any sense of the matter, I don’t suppose we’ll ever let you leave” was really like Da Man.
Hayley Atwell will make a lovely Mary Crawford though she doesn’t have that much on Billie Piper who’s rather pretty in a simple way (in costume). By the by, Julia Joyce who will play young Fanny Price in MP 2007, played young Sally Lockart here!
Julie Walters is an excellent actress and has kind eyes and will make a lovely Mrs. Austen.
And David Harewood did sound so familiar and after knowing him to be the voice of Henry Tilney I had to laugh at myself for having thought that voice belonged to someone who actually looked like Miss Austen’s decription. Mr. Harewood is a lovely actor.
Oh I can’t wait for the new adaptations! I’ve even created a site to mark that excitement!

Thank you, dahlings, for mentioning my humble blog. I adore Beau Brummel. I so want his ending to be different, and keep searching for references that tell me that the end of his life will be happier.
Rock on, ladies. I LOVE your blog.

Wow, I didn’t realize so much of the cast in The Ruby in the Smoke will be in the upcoming Austen films. That is so cool! I didn’t watch RitS but I liked the book.

With sad irony, the old age of the prince of dandies, the paragon of cleanliness, was one of imbecility, decrepitude, and disease. “His habits were so loathsome that an attendant could hardly be found for him.” He died in a Caen asylum in 1840.
Ooh yes, Ms.Place, I gasped when I read that. I did not know BB died in an asylum. How ghastly. From fame and parties to dying in obscurity. It is enough to make one want to have children. I LOVE this blog too. You rock on, your blog is awesome!

LUVD the Serpents on a Shippe and other Chaucer parodies. Way clever!
