JASNA Tour of Jane Austen’s England
We received notice of a fantastic tour being offered by the Jane Austen Society of North America–and you must be a member to take advantage of the tour. The itinerary includes stops in London, Winchester, Portsmouth, Lyme Regis, Bath, and of course Chawton (including the annual meeting of THE Jane Austen Society) and Steventon. It’s not just Austen sites, but a real Austen experience, including lectures, admission to private homes associated with Jane Austen, private viewings of Austen memorabilia owned by collateral descendants–really just a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
It’s not inexpensive, but we think worth the dosh. If the Editrix (a newly-minted JASNA life member, thankyouverymuch) wins the lottery in the next couple of months, she’s going; if it doesn’t sell out in the meantime, that is!

I just saw this tour on the JASNA site about an hour ago and am droooooling over it…I noticed one has to be a member to go and so I wrote my check immediately, something I have been meaning to do anyway…I hovered over the lifetime membership too, but such an investment needs Persuasion when it comes to my joint account with my husband. Heh. Huge strides were made this week when he watched P&P2 with me and laughed at all of Mr. Bennet’s jokes! “Uh oh,” he said after the first episode, “I may actually like this.” Jane slays another heart.
This part especially got me: At Winchester Cathedral, join Helen LeFroy in a private ceremony at Jane Austen’s grave. See the exterior of the house where Jane Austen died. Helen Lefroy? Private ceremony? At Jane’s Grave?? Someone catch me please. Saving pennies now…

Not to brag or anything, but I’m just about to drive down to Lyme for three days walking on the Dorset coast path!! And, was actually in the oak pannelled parlour of the Red House in Sevenoaks for that very Dickensian activity of instructing the solicitor (Jane’s Great-Uncle’s professional descendent) about a family will. (I hope Lyme Regis will be a lot more fun than that was.)

[...] They also are not cheap but we think some of our readers might be interested in such a tour. We think, however, that they are not as totally cool as the one we posted previously. [...]
