That’s Mr. Darcy to you

Filed under: Paraliterature — Mags @ 12:05 am

Amanda Grange wrote to tell us that the cover of the Sourcebooks edition of Darcy’s Diary, which has been retitled Mr. Darcy’s Diary, can be seen at her Web site. This paperback edition is available for preorder on Amazon US and Amazon UK (so don’t pay those crazy prices to the secondhand sellers, you Darcy maniacs. Yes, we are talking to you.).

Incidentally, this book is NOT to be confused with Mr. Darcy’s Diary by Maya Slater, which apparently is due to be released in October 2007.

The novel traces the events of Jane Austen’s well-loved Pride and Prejudice through the eyes of Mr Darcy. It reveals his reactions to Elizabeth, his gradual falling in love and the process by which he painfully gains self-knowledge, and it brings to life all the off-stage events that are only referred to in Austen’s novel. We learn of Darcy’s life in London, of his dangerous friendship with Byron,

of the responsibilities that come with running Pemberley, and the terrible guilt he feels at not protecting his sister well enough from the dastardly Wickham. We also see Miss Bingley’s increasingly desperate attempts to woo Darcy, and his own part in bringing about the separation between Elizabeth’s sister and his own best friend. But above all, we come to know Fitzwiliam Darcy as a fully-rounded character, with all his flaws and all his attractions, and we learn that the story told from his point of view is as enchanting, gripping and unforgettable as Jane Austen’s original.

Omigod not another darcy’s diary! This makes five, I think. While I particularly like Grange’s version and Aidan’s, enuff is enuff! Give the poor man a rest! Go pick on Heathcliff, viz.: “Today I hanged four puppies and pinched Cathy in church so that she squeaked and was severely punished. Good day. Tomorrow I plan to put salt in the sugar bowl and find a cat to torture. Memorandum to self: must remember to develop brooding inscrutability when grow up. Also mesmerizing eyes and a morbid sensibility. Won’t be too hard to develop the latter as life on the moors sucks.”

hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!! Allison, you’re on a roll … don’t stop! I’ll put in an advance order for Heathcliff’s Harangue.

  3. Ina Says:

    Me too! That’s hilarious Allison!

Darcy and Byron were friends? I don’t really buy that. But maybe it’s not THE Byron. In which case…Byron who?

  4. Marybeth Says:

Allison, that is hysterical! And so true. :)

  5. Elizabeth Says:

WOW, I LOVE it, Allison!!! hahaha!! But yeah, BYRON?

Oh my god. Too much for words - I’ll stick to shaking my head.

    Byron..

  6. Marylou Says:

Why did they change the cover of Darcy’s Diary??????!!!!! I am so sad. I I loved the previous cover! Why, Amanda, why????!!!!!
PS: I am still going to order the book…

  7. Amanda Grange Says:

The cover change was out of my hands, Marylou. Having said that, I know a lot of people didn’t like the old one (although I did, because I chose it), so perhaps a change is no bad thing. I’m having a debate about it at the moment on our blog at http://historicalromanceuk.blogspot.com so come along and let me know what you think :-)

  8. Reeba Says:

LOL!! Allison! Love it. You have talent. Along with the others I will pre-order the book whenever you plan to write it :)

    The new diary!!!
The eyes have been hidden from us - to protect those who need protection from Darcy’s smouldering looks!! ;)

  9. Marylou Says:

I do prefer the cover you chose Amanda. Regardless, I am looking forward to the book and Darcy’s “smouldering looks”! Thanks.
