To boldly go where no Janeite has gone before

We were amused by Regency romance novelist Cara King’s Star Trek/Jane Austen crossover at the Risky Regencies blog.

“Have you heard?” exclaimed Yeoman Rand, her terraced hair gleaming in the red LED light. “Our new science officer, Mr. Spock, is supposed to be ever so well off. Mr. Kyle says he owns half of Rigel Seven!”

“I do find,” said Nurse Chapel, “that Mr. Spock has a — an unusual way about him. And I confess, I find him a bit intriguing.”

Hee.

Reviewers face off over P&P on stage in Utah

(After the little film of a few years ago, one must make the distinction of STAGE production in Utah now!)

Alert Janeite Heather L. sent us two reviews of the Pioneer Theatre Company’s stage production of P&P, which runs through November 18. The Salt Lake Tribune says it is pretty, but misses the mark.

Despite all the eye candy on stage, there’s not enough tragedy in this comedy to make Austen’s language come freshly alive.

Yikes. Fortunately for eager ticketholders, the Deseret News is more enthusiastic.

The entire production has the feel of a big-budget BBC miniseries brought to life on stage.

Check out the photo in the latter article–lovely costumes!

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE on stage in California

Filed under: Stage — Mags @ 11:49 pm

Azusa Pacific University in southern California is producing a stage version of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE starting on November 9 and running on weekends through November 18. Tickets are available online. One hopes the spelling of Miss Austen’s surname will be correct in the program. ;-)
