P&P DVD giveaway is now closed

Filed under: Housekeeping — Tasha @ 8:13 pm

Thanks again to everyone who sent in their replies - we received over 100 entries! Winners were chosen at random, and have been notified. For those of you who were interested, there were two possible answers -

Victoria Hamilton played Mrs. Forster in the 1995 miniseries, Henrietta Musgrove in the 1995 television adaptation of Persuasion, and Maria Bertram in the 1999 film adaptation of Mansfield Park.

The other, less popular answer was:

Neville Phillips, who played good old Fossett (”Get help, Miss Bennet is unwell!”) in the 1995 miniseries; Baddeley in the 1983 television miniseries of Mansfield Park, and Thomas in the 1996 television adaptation of Emma.

Congratulations to the winners, and we’ll hopefully do this again soon!

She has fine naval fervour

Alert Janeite-on-the-spot Sylvia M. spotted this scan of an article about the filming of PERSUASION 2007, which contained the information that Jennifer Higham will play Louisa Musgrove. Here is a photo of Miss Higham.

More cast members for THE JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB film “adaptation”

Filed under: Screen, The Jane Austen Book Club — Mags @ 1:56 am

Alert Janeites Franka, Robyn, and Amo wrote to tell us that Amy Brenneman, Maggie Grace, Kevin Zegers, and Hugh Dancy have been added to the cast of THE JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB film “adaptation.”

Why the quotation marks, you ask? Get a load of this!

The story revolves around a California-based group of women and one man who form a club that meets periodically to discuss Jane Austen novels. As they meet, their lives unfold, with marriages being tested, affairs beginning, unsuitable arrangements becoming suitable and love happening.

Okay, that’s not so bad, but then it goes on…

Brenneman will play Sylvia, whose husband Daniel (Smits) leaves her after 32 years of marriage.

Um, according to her IMDB page, Ms. Brenneman is 42. Talk about your child brides.

Bello will play Jocelyn, her best friend who never married. Zegers will play an oversexed teen who gets involved with one of the club’s members

WHAT???

while Blunt will portray Prudie, a teacher with a worthy husband but is nagged by fantasies of sex with other men. Grace will play the lesbian daughter of Sylvia and Daniel, while Dancy is Grigg, a sci-fi fan and computer whiz.

So does this mean Josh Lucas is out of it?

Thanks, Hollywood, for your usual lucid filmmaking logic.

Oh, and IMDB? That’s KAREN Joy Fowler who wrote the book. She has our extreme sympathy, for many reasons.
