Blake Ritson added to cast of Mansfield Park 2007

Filed under: Mansfield Park 2007 — Mags @ 1:00 am

The news trickles out slowly…Alert Janeite Arwen posted in comments that Company Pictures’ Web site now lists Blake Ritson as one of the stars of MP2007 along with Billie Piper. The listing would make one think he is playing Edmund Bertram, wouldn’t it? He’ll make an awfully pretty Edmund, if so.

STYLE
Authoritative, cool, natural, animated, warm, smooth, rich, boyish.

Ah-MMMM! Too good for the likes of Edmund the Wanker, that’s for sure. (Yes, as a matter of fact the Editrix does have issues with Mr. Bertram the younger. Thanks for asking.) Check out the samples on the agency site; Blake has a lovely voice.

That picture of Blake Riston doesn’t look very pretty to me! Not bad, but not good.

What about this one? Is it better?

You don’t think he’s pretty in that pic? He looks like a pop star!

In the pic Sylvia posted he definitely looks more Edmundish.

Pretty, enough, I’ll grant you. And the Bertrams are a good looking family.
As for the voice-well, he certainly sounds like he went to boarding school! Nice sound- fruity, with a touch of rasp. He did a good job with the Little Prince and the Big King, but I found his narration of the Armenian story not quite convincing. Still, what has he got to do? 1) Be nice to little cousin Fanny, 2) Be inftuated with glamorous Mary and 3) Be boyish with his mum and his aunty, and his wild friends.

    He’ll do ! ;-)

He looks very Edmund-ish I think. He’s got a lot to live up to though, in my opinion, as I thought Jonny Lee Miller was superlative in the role in the 1999 film version.

not to be offensive to mr. riston, but i believe he looks very much like a man who would turn out to be a wanker the moment he assessed you could do nothing for him (of course this is based purely on what how other wankers i personally know look when posing for a photo) :)

Sounds more like Henry Crawford then, doesn’t it? ;-) (He’s a wanker, too.)

Okay, Mags, he looks better on second and closer inspection. He just reminded me of one of those 60s or 70s band members. Or of an alternative music band guy. Yeah. Some vague similarity to some guy or type of guy I can’t remember but don’t admire. (I’m a classical kind of girl which is why I’m totally at a loss to describe what I’m talking about.) Oh, also reminds me of my two friends’ ex-BF (they both went out w/him at different times) who was rather creepy.

But the second picture is better and in period costume and makeup he’ll look pretty fine. (Ohhh! He’d better have better hair than Edmund-MP1! Because that was BAD. BAD.)

Actually, he does, indeed, look like a wee bit of a wanker. So… perfect, no? But - WHAT 1999 version are we talking about? The only Mansfield Park I’m familiar with is the one with Ms Touralasylvestrel or whatever her name was. Did I miss anything?

DUUUH!!! Uh, SORRY ’bout the end of that previous post. But, you see, even if the characters in a film have names like Mary Crawford, and Uncle Bertram, if they do things like unbuttoning Fanny’s sodden bodice with significant smiles and whipping and raping slaves, it just doesn’t, somehow, REGISTER with me as being Mansfield Park.
