Period film costumes exhibition in Delaware
Alert Janeite Lorna wrote to tell us that the Winterthur Museum in Delaware will have an exhibition called “Fashion in Film: Period Costumes for the Screen,” featuring film costumes made by the British company Cosprop. The exhibition will include costumes from the film version of SENSE AND SENSIBILITY. The exhibition will run from September 30, 2006 through January 7, 2007.

If you have never been to Winterthur, it is an amazing mansion. I just went in June and was flabbergasted. Though it is not as big as the Biltmore, it’s smaller, more intimate feel makes you feel as if someone can actually live there. The gardens are great (if you hit up the last tours of the day, you may get a private tour where you can ask more questions like we did) and they even have a cute little enchanted garden for the kids, including a fairy toadstool circle, complete with mystical fog. Definitely worth the trip. Also stop by Kennett Square, PA for lunch–there is a used bookstore that offers $6 Brown Bag sales–for $6 you are encouraged to overfill your grocery paper bag with great novels! We got 56 paperbacks for $6 last time!
