Darcy’s MIND? Is that what the kids are calling it now?
USAToday has a rather breathless review of Janet Aylmer’s Book Darcy’s Story, which is being released in the U.S. for the first time next month, though many of us read it years ago.
Enter Darcy’s Story: Pride and Prejudice Told from a Whole New Perspective by Janet Aylmer. It will not be released until Aug. 1, but Austen fans will want to order this delectable crumpet ASAP so they can again witness Elizabeth Bennet’s charms.
Delectable crumpet? Has the book been rewritten since we read it?
This is not, let me stress, one of those awful “sequels” to P&P in which mediocre writers attempt to write with sparkling wit about what the future holds for Mr. and Mrs. Fitzwilliam Darcy.
While we agree that there are indeed many awful “sequels” and other Austen paraliterature around, we are not sure that this particular book would be the shining beacon that the lost lambs of Darcyville are looking for, either. (How’s THAT for a metaphor, eh?) We dare say that Gentle Readers of differing opinions will post a comment.
(Yes, that is an invitation.)
(Is anyone else amused by the cover illustration? The image centered on Darcy’s crotch? Subliminal selling much?)
P.S. Bonus Disco Darcy!

Actually, delectable crumpets or no, I read Emma as many times a year as I feel like it, and when it comes to Austen I never worry about being too obsessive. But maybe that’s just me. I prefer complex layers of spices to delectable crumpets.
*saves Disco Darcy to harddrive* That, dear friends, is TEH AWESOME.

Unfortunately, I received this book as a birthday present the day before yesterday. Have read about half of it–yikes! I actually think that I could do better myself, and I’m not even a writer. It’s more like Pride and Prejudice watered down and published under another author’s name than anything else. Once I finish this (as I continue out of morbid curiosity) I’m going to lock it away in some deep, dark place and hope nobody is ever unfortunate enough to find it.

Odd, I find myself humming Disco Duck.

I’m making Disco Darcy my AIM icon. It’s fabulous! As for the cover, I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt that maybe the point was about not showing Darcy’s FACE to go with the idea that every girl has her own Mr. Darcy but he remains mysterious and faceless.

I lament not knowing who to credit for Disco Darcy. It is something of a mystery. I did speak to the sister of his creator. Disco Darcy’s brother is one Twitchy Darcy (A photo from the same production of P&P where Darcy is leaning against the wall, but his head is twitching wildly). DD has brought us all great joy.

Ok! My twocents:
I have ordered this book some years ago, because I had just finished the first of Pamela Aidan’s (IMO wonderful) trilogy and simply wanted more.
And I was soooo disappointed.
I wanted my money back (and it was NOT cheap either).
It is obvious that the authour spent very little efford for this. Most of the book is almost literally quotation from P&P, there is hardly a hint about Darcy’s thoughts and none at all about his feelings!
Everybody, who has read “Pride and Prejudice” can easily forgo this one. Save your money and reread P&P!
(You see, I am still upset, when thinking about it!

Nice cover.
Disco Darcy, now I have seen everything!
