Harvard studies Austen as Chick Lit

Filed under: Jane in the News — Mags @ 9:06 pm

Any Harvard students out there? Made up your class schedules for fall yet? You might want to take a look at this first…

Studies of Women, Gender, and Sexuality 1122. “The Romance: From Jane Austen to Chick Lit.”

If last spring’s Kaavyagate was any indication that Chick Lit is in, then the Women, Gender, and Sexuality department has certainly taken notice. “The Romance: From Jane Austen to Chick Lit” will compare classic Austen novels to modern revisions such as Bridget Jones’s Diary. But don’t expect “How Opal Mehta…” to be on the syllabus.

The comparisons might turn out to be quite illuminating. At least we hope so.

Future dates for “A Celebration of Jane Austen” with Elizabeth Garvie

Filed under: Stage — Mags @ 9:02 pm

We received a note with some upcoming dates for the show “A Celebration of Jane Austen,” starring Elizabeth Garvie (Elizabeth Bennet in P&P1) and Anton Rogers. They will be at the Buckingham Summer Festival tonight (well, we guess it is a little late for that) and at Chewton Glen Hotel and Country Club, New Milton, Hampshire, on Sunday, July 16. See the link above for some 2007 dates.
