S&S4 in USA?
Alert Janeite Cinthia sent us some news about an adaptation of S&S that is being filmed in the U.S.!
The links are in Spanish, but here is Cinthia’s recap:
The Venezuelan film director Fina Torres is in her country to participate in a cinema workshop and while interviewed there, she mentioned she is currently working in 3 different film projects, among them:
“an adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Sense and Sensibility” in USA”
Cinthia can’t tell (and neither can we) if she means S&S3 or another project entirely–perhaps a modern-set version? We’ll keep an eye out for more news!

According to a biography of Luis Alfaro on the Synchronicity Performance Group website, Luis Alfaro is currently collaborating with director Fina Torres on Sensibilidad, a contemporary adaptation of Sense and Sensibility set in Los Angeles.

[...] We previously posted a tantalizing tidbit about a possible new S&S adaptation, and Alert Janeite Arwen came up with the goods: it will be a modern-set Spanish language (we assume) adaptation called SENSIBILIDAD. Currently, (playwright Luis Alfaro) is collaborating with director Fina Torres on Sensibilidad, a contemporary adaptation of Sense and Sensibility set in Los Angeles. [...]

Hello. Great to see an Austen website. Just wanted to respond to the adaptation that filmmaker Fina Torres and I are doing on Sense & Sensibility. We were approached about a year ago by a great company that did a lovely film called Garden State to do a contemporary adaptation of this great Austen work. We read and re-read the novel so many times. We have seen all of the adaptations of her work, both here in the U.S. and internationally. This is an English language feature film that begins filming in November in Los Angeles. We love the title Sensibilidad because the story has a Mexican-American slant, but I am sure something more commercial will be attached once the film is done. It is very much a contemporary romantic comedy and we hope we do justice to Austen. Thanks. Luis Alfaro

Hi Luis, thanks for posting here and letting us know some more information. Personally, I love Austen adaptations set in a different cultural milieu, such as Bride and Prejudice, so I’m looking forward to it. And I think Sensibilidad is a great title, too. Like you said, it’s Spanish but close enough to English to be recognizable and I think gets the point across.
