Samuel Beckett: Friend of Jane

Filed under: F.O.J. (Friends of Jane) — Mags @ 9:22 pm

Alert Janeite Paola wrote to tell us about an article (in French) about Samuel Beckett’s various homes; the article mentions that Beckett traveled to Jane Austen-related sites in England.

Le voici en Angleterre. Il a 29 ans et vient de villégiaturer avec sa mère, sur les traces de Jane Austen et de Shakespeare.

Here he is in England. He’s 29 years old and he’s just taken a vacation with his mother, on the traces of Jane Austen and Shakespeare.

    Just a small remark:

“… et vient EN villégiature …”

But I can’t really imagine Beckett reading Austen…

  2. Paola Says:

Vient de villégiaturer is written in the article.

  3. Mags Says:

I copied it right out of the article…

And maybe it was his mother who read Jane Austen, and he went to the sites to humor her?

  4. Guillaume Cingal Says:

The article is about a wonderful essay by Nathalie Léger called Les Vies silencieuses de Samuel Beckett. You can have a look around here : http://mumm.hautetfort.com (but everything is in French, even on Beckett).

Besides, I have just started writing a blog on Pride & Prejudice… Will keep you posted,
