PRIDE AND PREJUDICE on stage in New York? Anybody interested?

Filed under: Stage — Mags @ 9:26 pm

Yo New Yorkers! We heard from a producer trying to gauge interest in an off-off-Broadway production of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. Post and let us know if you would go to see such a play!

I guess I’m leading the stampede. I’m in New York and would be quite willing to see such a production. What are the chances Colin Firth does off-off Broadway?

  2. DeeDee Says:

It would be a thrill beyond compare, but I live way out in Mississippi. :-(

  3. Marianne Says:

I am planning to visit NY sometime next year. P&P on stage would be a “MUST SEE” for me then! :D

  4. Lee Says:

I’m only 2 short hours away! I’ll be there!

  5. IR Says:

I’d be there—and with bells on.

Hopefully the Milne adaptation, and this time, done right.

  6. Mags Says:

I understand it is to be an original script.

  7. Jessica Says:

I’ve always been surprised that no one has every put a Jane Austen book inspired play on Broadway before. I mean they have Les Miserable which, as we all know, is inspired by a classic novel, why not P&P or Emma???? Nevertheless, I would definitely go see it off-off Broadway as well and I’m all the way in Colorado. A good stage version of P&P in NYC will be just the thing! Go to it Mr. Producer Man! :-P

  8. Sarah Says:

I’ll be studying in NY in the fall … count me in!

  9. Allegretto7 Says:

I would definately be interested in seeing a play of P&P… I’m not much of a fan of theater, but I love the story so much I would see it.

  10. Anonymous Says:

Yup. This NYC girl would show up (but I go to almost any play or musical I can get a cheap ticket to so that doesn’t mean all that much). I have to warn you, though, the Pride and Prejudice plays I’ve seen before have been dreadful (I saw that Arizona/ San Jose one recently and don’t think I’ve ever had a worse, or more unintentionally hilarious, night at the theater and I saw In My Life). But still, hope springs eternal for this Austen/theater fanatic, so I hope this works out.

  11. Bridget Says:

good lord YES! I would show up and I live in Virginia. :D Gotta love having relative near NYC.

  12. Agnes Says:

I would definitely go see it and I live in Kentucky.

  13. Cheryl Says:

I’d be up for it too! But count me in also for a revival of the Milne script . . . It got the tone right, which is more than can be said for most Austen adaptations.

  14. Ela Says:

I’m also planning to visit NY next year and surely I would like to see it and hope for more informations. Count me in :)

How far off is off? The Shakespeare Festival of New Jersey in Madison on the campus of Drew Univesity will be producing P&P next fall.

The performance with post show discussion is on October 28. A Pemberley group of about 20 will be attending

  16. Deb R. Says:

    What’s a Pemberley group?

  17. Karen 2L Says:

A Pemberley group is a gaggle of women who post on Pemberley.com. Many of us have become friends over the years.

  18. Kerri Says:

In response to Jessica’s June 28th note: Though some years agao, therem was a B’way production of Pride and Prejudice (it was entitled First Impressions). For details, see http://www.ibdb.com/production.asp?ID=2085 for details.

  19. Mags Says:

I think it’s off Broadway but still on the island. ;-)

I would very much like to attend the production in New Jersey but October is pretty much booked for me so I will have to look at the November dates. I don’t know how many Janeites they’ll get for the October 28 session considering that a lot of us will be in Arizona for the JASNA AGM that weekend! :D

  20. Mags Says:

Wow, I would have loved to see that Broadway version, although I’ve heard it was kind of iffy…Hermione Gingold as Mrs. Bennet? Farley Granger as Darcy? AND OH MY GOD ALAN QUARTERMAINE WAS IN IT…..HA HA HA HAAAAAA! (Not that I watch General Hospital anymore but was obsessed for years and years.)

  21. Bajorek Says:

I represent the writers of the new musical, Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice that opens this Friday in Wooster, Ohio. I will be in NY promoting the show the week of July 17th. Not sure if it is our show that has created such a buzz, but it is our goal to get it on Broadway ASAP. For more information on the show go to http://ohiolightopera.com.

[...] One of the writers of the play has posted in comments that this is their ambition, so it is good to hear that it is worthy. We hope that we get to see it. [...]
