More BECOMING JANE news
An article in the TOMB (Time Out Movie Blog) headlines with information that is old news to most of us, but a little further reading provides us with some new information: that Julian Jarrold as directing.
A quick IMDB search shows that he’s done mainly what seem to be made-for-TV movies and miniseries, but what gives us hope is that he’s done period films like GREAT EXPECTATIONS and comedy such as THE CANTERBURY TALES (which this particular reporter finds less funny after having been made to read it in Old English and write a term paper on it).
From the looks of it, I think he just might think Empire dresses are pretty, which gives him plenty of brownie points with me.

Oops! Changed it!
This is what I get for using posting as a form of procrastinating on my paper about Shakespeare’s sonnets.

The Canterbury Tales are in middle English. If they were in Old English you could not read them without translation. I hope this guy did not direct the supposedly almost pornographic version of Cantebury Tales from the 1960s or 70s. I’ve never seen it, but my Chaucer professor said it made Chaucer seem interesting to people for awhile.

The Canterbury Tales are rather bawdy, however.

“Empire dresses, Empire dresses, Empire dresses,” chant the rioting Janeites.
