“A Celebration of Jane Austen” with Elizabeth Garvie
Elizabeth Garvie, who played Elizabeth Bennet in the 1980 television adaptation of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, will take part in “A Celebration of Jane Austen” at the Court Theatre at Pendley Tring in (fittingly) Hertfordshire.
A celebration of the life and works of one of England’s most popular authors presented by one of the country’s best-loved actors. The fascinating and enigmatic Jane Austen is revealed in her own words and in those of her admirers; accompanied by music.
As always, if you go, post a review.

I love the picture of her on the site. She’s still adorable.

I am very glad to see Elizabeth Garvie is renewing her Austen connection, as she was the quintessential Eliza Bennett. I wish I could have attended this event, and would very much appreciate it if someone who attended could post something here — or better yet, if Ms. Garvie might come across this site and post a note with her thoughts on Austen.

Here is an on-line review I found, from a British paper called the Bucks Free Press. My on-line searches show that the performance is touring in Britain, on March 30 to April 1 will be at Clwyd Theatr Cymru in Flintshire, on May 21 will be at Oakengates Theatre, Shropshire, and likely other places I did not discover. Here is the review:
A Celebration of Jane Austen
review by Rita Carpenter
ANTON Rogers and his wife Elizabeth Garvie shared the limelight to a full house of Austen enthusiasts who were eagerly awaiting the programme of the life and works of one of Britain’s favourite authors.
We were treated to interesting anecdotes of Jane’s life and sampled the delights of scenes enacted from some of our favourite passages from Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and other of her works.
Interspersed with the readings we were entertained with some beautiful music from pianist Christine Croshaw and flautist Clive Conway. The popular and often amusing vignettes were superbly presented by the husband and wife team and greatly enjoyed by an appreciative audience.
Thame Players Theatre offers a wide variety of programmes and has many well known visiting artistes. This was an evening not to be missed, but lovers of Austen’s work can catch up with this as the pair will be performing in Tring in the near future. Well worth making the journey this was an evening of pure delight.
