A British Icon Indeed

Alert Janeite Carmen wrote to share a very interesting link. Pride and Prejudice has been nominated as a “British Icon.” The voting is open, so do your Janeite duty!

    Thanks for the Info Mags and Carmen, my only question is why is it just Pride and Prejudice? After all Jane Austen wrote six books, SHE IS A BRITISH ICON. Instead of just recognizing her books Our Lady Jane should be recognized for the true British Literary Ambassador that she is; the woman who defines comedies of manners, romance and drama for literature readers around the globe.

    I wondered that myself, but after poking around the site a bit it seems that they don’t do people, just things.

    I thought JA was an icon in fact…but if they do not admit people. I looked for Colin Firth in order to know if his Mr Darcy was an icon too, because, I have read it many times too…You can see Mr Bean is an icon there;)
