Legacy Austen Films

Filed under: Screen — Mags @ 8:23 pm

Alert Janeite Robin, being the good librarian that he is, sent us a fabulous link about British television films and series from the British Film Institute, including part of the 1967 PRIDE AND PREJUDICE series starring Celia Bannerman and Lewis Fiander. You can view an entire 23-minute episode as well as a couple of shorter clips.

Check out other series by decade. (teehee–Roger Moore as Ivanhoe!)

ETA: Oh poo. You have to be in the U.K., and at a library or school with a license to view the films. Ah well, hope you all enjoy!

John Hannah as Captain Wentworth?

Just because his production company is shooting the film doesn’t make it so, of course, but that would be VERY interesting casting. Don’t know if it’s to our taste exactly, but interesting nonetheless.

Persuasion (ITV1). Can we ever see enough heaving bosoms? John Hannah hopes not, as his production company Clerkenwell Films is shooting Jane Austen’s final novel as part of a season of her work that also includes Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey.

Yes, because Jane Austen’s work is nothing but heaving bosoms, and Persuasion particularly so. Eejits.

ETA 9 January 2006: Welcome to readers of the Jane Austen Centre at Bath Newsletter. We have a lively discussion going here already; feel free to join in, agree or disagree, just do so politely, please.

P&P3 DVD release dates

Filed under: Pride and Prejudice (2005) — Mags @ 7:14 pm

Paul from KeiraWeb wrote to tell us that the P&P3 DVD release date for the U.S. is March 14, 2006. Other DVD release dates listed on KeiraWeb are February 6 for the U.K. and February 23 for Germany. (It hasn’t even hit theatres yet in some countries!!!)

Paul also sent this list of extras for the U.K. DVD…looks like it will be a nice package.
