Happy Birthday, Jane Austen!

Today is the 230th anniversary of the birth of Jane Austen. Dorothy’s made virtual tea and shortbread for all. Let’s have a party!

    My ten year-old son made a birthday cake out of Legos for my Jane Austen action figure, and a table for her little writing desk, too. What a guy.

    I like to look at those pictures of Jane that Cassandra used to draw, and imagine, especially in that one where she’s sort of gathering up her skirts and her back is to you, that she’s right about to turn around and say something along the lines of “It is a truth universally acknowledged…”
