PRIDE AND PREJUDICE to be shown in the U.K. with the “alternative” ending
The public has spoken: we received the following press release today.
Pride and Prejudice re-released with Alternative ending
Last week saw the US release of Universal and Working Title’s hugely successful film adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. What followed was a phenomenal wave of British press and public interest in debate about the extended ending that has never been released to UK audiences.
On Friday 25th November, United International Pictures will release this extended version in selected theatres across the UK and Ireland.
Producer Paul Webster said, “We were absolutely delighted in the continued interest in Pride & Prejudice and are excited about the opportunity to show the US ending to the British public.”
We’ll try to find out which theatres will show the extended version.
ETA: The list of theatres will become available next week. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear.
ETA: Alert Janeite Michele A. linked to an article from the Daily Mail in the comments.

Another reason to see P&P3 once more! Did they REALLY think that no one would notice the difference?! Hmmmmmm . . . the plot thickens.

But the cheesy snogging scene isn’t eight minutes long–that I could tell–so what else is different between the two releases? Curious minds want to know! (And as I said a few days ago in another AustenBlog comment section, I still think the “my pearl” comment is an inside joke to Knightley’s previous movie “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black PEARL.” Just a thought.)

It went out of theatres in Ireland before I got the chance to see it, so I’m glad it might be in a cinema near me. My sister hated it, though.

Doubt I’d endure a fourth viewing simply to watch the ending.

I think there were other scenes cut out of the U.K. version.

Mmmm. As much as I’d like to see the infamuos kissy-face scene, I think I’d rather see it as an extra on the DVD when it’s released here in Australia. I saw the film for the - ahem - fourth time a few days again after a break of a few weeks, I found myself really very pleased that it ended with Mr B asking whether there were any young gentlemen to see him about Kitty or Mary.
Very curious indeed, however, about the extra eight minutes… what else have we missed out on?

According to UK The Times online, http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-1872408,00.html, it states that the movie is an estimated 2 minutes shorter minus the Mrs. Darcy, Mrs. Darcy ending. What are the other 6 minutes? The intrigue continues . . .

A-ha! I thought somebody who had seen both versions posted the differences in the comments…

What I want to know is, how can we get the extended version down under, in Australia????? !!!!!

i believe that there were other scenes - lucas trying to arrange a dance pairing with elizabeth and darcy, wickham riding a horse around his new sisters rather complacently around the bennett’s property and I think, conversing with elizabeth trying to make amends, and maybe a little more of elizabeth brooding - there was one visual transition of the camera focusing on candlelight, then moving into a sunrise scene - very 70’s era style… i’d have to see the u.s. version again to confirm but that is what I remember.

I recently bought the dvd in australia, and the alternate ending was but 2 minutes long…so I assume that those extra 6 minutes were in different parts of the film as Angeltofuhead said above. But I’m dissapointed that this ending isn’t apart of the movie as a whole! Can someone explain why they didn’t include it?
