PRIDE AND PREJUDICE movie site is live, sort of

Or, Why Flash Web Sites Suck, by the Editrix.

Alert Janeite Erandika kindly let us know that the P&P3 official movie site for the U.S. is now live, but the AustenBlog staff, though generally not especially challenged from a technological standpoint, is at a loss as to how to make it do much of anything. We clicked “Enter Site” and got a pretty picture but nothing else, and the gerbil on the wheel inside the computer protested until we shut it down. Are we missing something?

Cub Reporter Julie B. opined that a little Jimi Hendrix music would liven it up a bit. We tend to agree.

Have looked at the site and it does seem a bit empty. Also there a lot nicer production photos of Mat Macfadyen around that they could have used. I envy anyone seeing this film for the first time without having seen the clips and spoilers. It was a shame that the decision was taken to delay the film in the US until November (because of the Oscars?) This meant people overseas were watching clips and bits of the film, instead of experiencing the story unfolding in front of them. How nice it is to go to the movies and watch a film that has no bad language or nudity, one that you can take your grannie to.

I am on dial up so Flash is a pain. But enventually, by closing and re-opening, and moving the cursor about, those floating letters finally regrouped into words: ‘gallery’ &c.
More waiting to load page, music spotty - I know, I know, be a real person and upgrade the computer and get broadband :(
At any rate ‘Behind the scenes’, ‘characters’, ‘downloads’ with more links on those pages.
    Patience & Good luck!

I wonder if the problems the Austenblog staff had with the movie’s website stem from protective software, such as Norton Anti-virus, perhaps? It would block flash viewing, to prevent the hint of any kind of download, or interaction of the internet and one’s PC. I for one, had that problem, and couldn’t view the site until I physically approved it for the benefit of my viewing/listening pleasure.

I do not think it is a bad site. It offers small insights into the movie, but most of that content is of no consequence to me. I, for one, love the site specifially because it has an option to listen to the entire soundtrack! Listening to “Your Hands Are Cold” puts one right back into the movie, and into rhapsodies all over again at the rememberance of the scene it augments.
