“Longbourn Manor”

Filed under: Online, Pride and Prejudice (2005) — Mags @ 10:30 am

Alert Janeite Erandika wrote to tell us about a new link on the PRIDE AND PREJUDICE 2005 official site. It appears to be a community site, with message boards and chatroom, and further appears that one must register to use it.

Has anyone tried the “new link”? I’d love to check it out, but so much info needs to be passed on. I don’t if its worth it?

Seems too daunting to me. What on earth do they need all of that info for except to sell it to their vendors. More junk mail is all that I could picture coming at me. Puleeze, your date of birth and home address. Demographics anyone?

Would have been fun to surf.

If they ask for your e-mail address or any personal information, they have to ask your birthdate, because of the Child Online Protection Act–it is illegal to collect personal information from children younger than 13 without their parents’ permission.

Of course, that doesn’t stop kids who really want access from lying their heads off. ;)

However, I would be cautious about ever giving an e-mail address to a commercial organization. You might want to keep a “junk” e-mail account for that purpose.

If anybody wants a Gmail invitation, e-mail me! Their spam handling has been pretty good so far, although I don’t give out that address so I have received very little–just some on the one we use for the blog.

Also sometimes your ISP will allow you to create an extra e-mail box–just make a new one and use it for anybody who asks for an e-mail address that you fear might result in spam.
