How about a P&P2 News Roundup?
Just for a change of pace.
Alert Janeite, er, Jennite of the Jennifer Ehle Blog sent us a link to the P&P2 documentary on BBC “Drama Connections” at colinfirth24-7.com. Remember to right click and Save As to download!
If you want a preview, the JE Blog Forum has some transcripted excerpts.
Jennite also tells us that the anniversary edition of the P&P2 DVDs apparently has a NEW making-of documentary. It might even be the Drama Connections broadcast–has anyone bought it who can tell us?
And lastly, a very sweet and funny poem from a P&P2 fan posted at the IMdB, which we only excerpt here:
Oh! Pity the woman! The one who is dead,
with some other Darcy locked up in her head.
She missed the dark rake who embodied the name
of Fitzwilliam Darcy and then rose to fame.[. . .]
E-bay reports a phenomenal mystery,
One that will dwell in the tomes of web history.
An order was placed with a vendor in Boston
for a P&P boxed set from: Heaven, Jane Austen.

Well, I just received the anniversary edition. I cannot tell whether the making is new or not, for I never see a old one.
Certainly, the packing is very nice, where photos are sharp in color. One thing that concerned me before I ordered it is the quality of video. For R1 DVD (released Sep. 2001), most consumers complained about the quality of video, especially faded color due to too much contrast, as compared with VHS edition (similar thing happened to “Middlemarch”). I don’t know about the previous R2 DVD edition, but in this anniversary edition, though the picture is not sharp in today’s standard (at lest, not as sharp as the photos in the packing), I can accept its video quality and, besides, the color is OK to me.
What I don’t understand is why they don’t want to add more into this the anniversary edition. Even the R1 DVD (2001) has an 8-page booklet. It will be great if they can put something in DVD, like interactive map (places mention in the novel), quiz (to test whether you’re a true fan), or even a game.

The word from Hyacinth Gardens is that the “making of” feature is the same as the old one, alas.
