Details for screening of P&P3 at Jane Austen Festival in Bath

The Jane Austen Centre at Bath has posted details about their pre-Festival screening of P&P3 on September 15:

The Jane Austen Festival Director, Sue Hughes, will be hosting a special additional event ahead of this year’s Festival.

“We’ve been lucky enough to be offered a pre-release screening of the new ‘Pride and Prejudice’ movie and wanted to mark it out as a special occasion,” said Sue. “A limited number of tickets will be available for a private party at the Jane Austen Centre before we all go down to the screening at the Little Theatre. It will be a lovely evening.” As well as a buffet and wine at the party, ‘goodie’ bags containing film company items and special Jane Austen souvenirs will be given out.
Those lucky enough to have caught the press screenings of the new film have been most enthusiastic in their praise.

“The BBC version in the ’90’s brought a new generation to Jane Austen, and this film is likely to rekindle that interest. It is earthy, gritty and very realistic,” said Isla MacFarlane of the Jane Austen Centre. “I can’t wait to see it again as the characterisation is so well formed.”

The ‘Pride and Prejudice Party’ is on Thursday the 15th of September.
Tickets are £8 available from the Festival box office 01225 463362

The Jane Austen Festival runs from 17-25 September and includes some great events.

Two P&P documentaries to be shown on British television

Filed under: Screen — Mags @ 9:21 am

Thanks to Jennite of the Jennifer Ehle weblog, we have learned that the lucky Brits will get to see not one but two documentaries about Pride and Prejudice on Tuesday, September 13–no doubt in preparation for the big P&P3 film release.

Firstly, the one mentioned before, Pride and Prejudice Revisited on at 9.30pm, 11.05pm and 3.40am on BBC4. This one is about the impact of the book and focuses on a number of adaptations. NB: this is not to be confused with ANOTHER documentary called Pride and Prejudice Revisited, airing on ITV1 on Sunday 11th, which is a making-of feature about the new film.

Secondly, there is Drama Connections. This is the one reported a while ago, that’s specifically about the development of the 1995 mini-series. This is screening at 10.35pm on BBC1.

The P&P2 documentary will be aired in conjunction with a reairing of the series itself. Jennite has sorted the dates and times, all available at the link.

Check out the posting at the Jennifer Ehle weblog for quotations from the article about the making of P&P2–”find out what happened to that shirt.” Sounds like a can’t-miss proposition. ;-)

Which Bennet sister are you?

Alert Janeite and Dear Friend of AustenBlog Karen sent us a link to an online poll, courtesy of the Daily Mail: Which Bennet Sister Are You? (We were Jane, much to our everlasting astonishment. Must have been the Labrador with the big brown eyes that put us over the edge.)
