Daily P&P3 news roundup

Filed under: Pride and Prejudice (2005) — Mags @ 10:28 pm

With the U.K. opening less than a month away, we have resigned ourselves to a daily roundup of news about P&P3, unless we eat pasta and fall asleep in the evening (as is our custom). Dorothy has promised to oblige with bracing pots of Orange Pekoe and has hidden the Tullamore Dew for the nonce. Nose to the grindstone!

Alert Janeite Robyn reports that comingsoon.net is listing an extra, non-trailer clip from P&P3 on their site. We have been unable to get it to load or download. We are privy to some information that makes us think that they might have been precipitate in posting it. *taps nose* Stay tuned. Enough said. If you can get the clip to work, post in the comments. Could be the gerbil on the wheel of the official AustenBlog World Headquarters computer went lame again. Links to four clips posted in comments.

Paul from KeiraWeb.com reports that the U.K. is getting their own official P&P3 site. The most interesting part is the link to sign up for “exclusive movie news, screenings and premiere invites.” We dare say that it gets you on the general Universal Pictures mailing list rather than a P&P3 specific one, so take that into consideration before you sign up.

And finally, Steven Matchett from the Australian pouts and stamps his itty bitty feet that there’s yet another P&P adaptation being made, because everyone knows that Jane Austen is borrrrrrring. Poor deluded soul.

Tenth anniversary edition of P&P2 and a virtual fan event

Filed under: Screen — Mags @ 10:11 pm

Jennite of the Jennifer Ehle weblog reports that a tenth anniversary edition of the P&P2 DVD goes on sale on September 5.

It appears as if there aren’t many new features, but at least there’s a pretty new cover with Mr Firth looking broody and Ms Ehle looking Lizzy.

Hee! Doesn’t look like there is anything new (from the Special Edition) except the cover art, however.

There is further very exciting news from Jennite: Ms. Ehle has agreed to answer fan questions in an e-mail interview!!!! Click this link to see how to submit your questions. You only have till August 19th, so make haste, make haste!

Scotland loves Jane

Filed under: Jane in the News — Mags @ 10:02 pm

…though not as much as they love the Brontë sisters, apparently.

The Edinburgh Evening News reports that almost two-thirds of Scots credit teachers with instilling a love of reading. 25 percent of the respondents named Pride and Prejudice as the third most influential book that they read at school (Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights were one and two).

The Herald, reporting the same story, complains that there aren’t any Scottish writers on the shortlist.

Special screenings of P&P3

Filed under: Pride and Prejudice (2005) — Mags @ 6:55 am

The Huddersfield Daily Examiner reports that a special screening of P&P3 to benefit charity will be held on September 8 (a week before the film officially opens in the U.K.) at the UCI cinema in Huddersfield. Tickets are £6 and include a pre-show cocktail party.

Alert Janeite Jessica also pointed out a new section on the U.S. P&P3 Web site to obtain information about group screenings. It seems to be directed at school groups that might be studying P&P but doesn’t seem limited to such, so get your friends together and have fun!

In other P&P3 news (sort of), Paul from KeiraWeb.com let us know that a documentary about Pride and Prejudice (the novel) narrated by Donald Sutherland will be shown on the U.K. cable channel Artsworld this Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. (This is not associated with the film; we are fairly certain we heard of this program before and that it was produced years ago.) Also, P&P0 (the one from 1940 with Greer Garson as Lizzy and Laurence Olivier as Darcy) will be shown on the Irish channel TG4 on Tuesday, August 30 at noon.
