PRIDE AND PREJUDICE 2005 to premiere at Toronto Film Festival in September

Filed under: Pride and Prejudice (2005) — Mags @ 11:31 pm

It looks like Ontario Janeites will get a jump on the rest of the world. Paul of KeiraWeb.com sent us a note to say that PRIDE AND PREJUDICE 2005 will make its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, which takes place from September 8-17th. We really hope that some kind AustenBlog reader in Toronto will take pity on the rest of us and send us a review! Here is some information about other films that will be shown at the festival.

Paul also invited AustenBloggers to take the polls at KeiraWeb, one of which is about the Keira film you are most looking forward to seeing. Let’s show those PotC people how Janeites behave! (Sorry, having a Hornblower moment–channeling Mr. Bush there.)

The Editrix also had a Proofreader’s Cringe Moment at the P&P3 official site…see if you spot it. :-)

British antiques show features Chawton Cottage

Filed under: Screen — Mags @ 11:31 pm

Paul of KeiraWeb.com wrote to tell us that the U.K. television program(me) “Flog It!”, an antiques valuation show, will repeat an episode that features Chawton Cottage. The details, courtesy of Paul:

I remember seeing it some months back and was very interested to see her actual writing desk and first drafts of her novels. … Flog It!, BBC2, Tuesday 19th July at 6pm. The episode is from Andover (about 12 miles from Chawton)

Thanks for the heads-up!

Illustrated facsimile edition of Pride and Prejudice published

Filed under: Page — Mags @ 11:15 pm

Alert Janeite Robin sent us news of a new illustrated edition of Pride and Prejudice that is a facsimile edition of the version published by George Allen in 1894 with illustrations by Hugh Thomson. The book is available in the U.K. as well. It looks as though there will be an illustrated “companion” book published in September.

She says that like it’s a bad thing

Not really Jane news, but we were amused by one of the author’s comments in this article about writing interesting entries for a business blog.

Be topical: Unless your blog is on Jane Austen (and I’m hard-pressed to find a business blog tackling this topic), relate entries to current themes. You can create your own energy off the current “buzz.”

Well, a business blog, perhaps not… ;-)
