Elizabeth George: Friend of Jane

Filed under: F.O.J. (Friends of Jane) — Mags @ 11:09 pm

Mystery author Elizabeth George told a reporter that Jane Austen is one of the main influences upon her writing.

My biggest literary influence is the English novelist John Fowles. Others, in no particular order, are John Irving, John le Carre, Alice Hoffman, Graham Swift, Penelope Lively, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Jane Austen.

Mom’s favorite: P&P

Jami Bernard of the New York Daily News says that her mother Gloria’s favorite film is the 1940 version of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE:

Romance: Gloria’s hands-down favorite is “Pride and Prejudice” (1940), based on the Jane Austen novel about a family of nubile girls trying to make the right match. Greer Garson hates, hates, hates new neighbor Laurence Olivier, until she realizes - perhaps too late? - that she loves, loves, loves him. A terrific remake is coming this fall with Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen, which will no doubt be on the bill for next year’s Mother’s Day.

Happy Mother’s Day to Janeite moms!
