A Persuasionesque soundtrack

Filed under: Links, Screen — Mags @ 9:50 pm

Thanks to all who posted comments to our call for assistance with assembling a soundtrack of songs from the film version of Persuasion. Teresa has assembled many of the pieces into an iTunes i-mix called “Persuasionesque,” and invites all those interested to download it (don’t worry; it’s legal–and you’ll have to pay around $1 a song, unless you have lots of those Pepsi caps).

Check out the thread, there’s lots of great Jane Austen film adaptation music links there.

Leapin’ Louisa

On a slow news week, we are most grateful for our correspondents and their links. Our Mysterious Correspondent of last week (who, we understand, is enjoying being mysterious) sent us a word from an article in the New York Times that had nothing to do with Jane Austen, except that it put her in mind of Louisa Musgrove’s leap from the Cobb in Persuasion. Scroll down to the list of “manias” and you will see the mot du jour:

Catapedamania: obsession with jumping from high places.

Is there a mania for swooning into the arms of handsome sailors, we wonder? And how would one go about catching it?

Alert AustenBlog Reader Deb R. sent us a fun link: Relive the era of Jane Austen at Ston Easton Park Hotel!

Gracious, it’s Pemberley South!

Thanks for the link, Deb!

Alert AustenBlog Reader Cinthia of the JAcastellano mailing list writes to tell us about a not-so-new-anymore Jane Austen-themed Whit Stillman project, WINCHESTER RACES, brought to her attention by a poster on the mailing list. (more…)
