Stage production of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE coming to Atlanta and Arizona

Filed under: Stage — Mags @ 12:03 pm

According to Playbill.com, the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta has announced a production of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE as part of its 2005-2006 season. The Alliance Theatre Web site has no date information, and it appears that only current subscribers can buy tickets at the moment, but the Playbill article has the theatre’s phone number if you want to get on their mailing list.

The Playbill Web site also says that the play is produced in conjunction with the Arizona Theatre Company, so we checked their Web site as well, and voila–PRIDE AND PREJUDICE will be in Tucson in September and and Phoenix in October.

Jane Austen to influence choice of next Pope!

Filed under: Jane in the News — Mags @ 11:47 am

Well, not really…but Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, Archbishop of Westminster, told the New York Times that he might be reading some Jane Austen during his downtime at the conclave.

The cardinals will also have scripture and other religious writings to reflect upon, but they may bring other reading material, too.

Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor said he would certainly be bringing “pious” books, but also some secular works. “It’ll be a sort of Brontë,” he said, “or Jane Austen.”

Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor, we understand, is on the shortlist. Imagine having a Pope who is a Janeite!
