Jane Austen reference on LOST

Filed under: Screen — Mags @ 8:16 pm

During a flashback scene in tonight’s episode of LOST, Charlie (Dominic Monaghan) said to some of his rock-star groupies, “You call yourselves ladies? What would Jane Austen say?”

*squeeeeeeee*

(LOST is the Editrix’s favorite show, if you haven’t figured that out–and Charlie is her favorite character!)

The San Francisco Bay Guardian has a fun rundown of film versions of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, modern, multicultural and otherwise.

TYPE PRIDE AND Prejudice into the search engine of the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com), and the flood of Jane Austen love pours forth: there’s a 2003 Mormon-ized version, several lesser-known TV renditions – most not available for home viewing including a 1952 take featuring Peter Cushing (!) as Mr. Darcy – and some punny, in-name-only homages (Pride and Extreme Prejudice, Snide and Prejudice).

We still think some Janeite should name a weblog “Snide and Prejudice.” (And we desperately want to see Peter Cushing’s Mr. Darcy–if memory serves, the same version also features Prunella Scales as Lydia!)

Wow. She IS Lizzy Bennet.

Also, Richard Corliss of Time thinks Darcy is a stiff. Get in line, dude.

The New York premiere is Wednesday (today!) at the UA Union Square Theatre. We are sure there will be photos tomorrow.
